Thwarted
So, I got home Wednesday morning and figured I’d bang out a quick post and go to bed.
Sh!t Happens
Apparently, there was a storm overnight while I was at work. The clocks were all flashing and the monitor of my desktop PC was D-E-A-D. Okay, nevermind pecking out a post before bed. I slept. I woke up just in time to go to work again figuring I could just pick up a monitor on my way home Thursday morning and be back in business.
Of course, it can never be that simple. Until all was said and done, I got a replacement monitor Thursday night just before being late to pick my son up from work. I go home, figuring to put the new monitor on and peck out a post before bed.
Nope
The wife is watching TV on the Xbox instead, so I pick up paper and pencil and continue working on the prologue to story 1 of 5 in the Sentinels arc. The pencil keeps on going until the wee hours and I went to bed again, not rising until way late in the afternoon.
I did manage to get the monitor on in time for my wife to get home from dropping the kids off at work and taking the crazy cat to the vet. Having gotten things back to normal-ish, I got on her side of the PC and left it there until she went to work again. By Friday evening, Wednesday’s blog post became a bit of an afterthought and I was going to write and schedule this one.
No such luck.
Fortunately, I woke up early today and am now dealing with today’s post and announcing that Wednesday’s post simply ain’t gonna happen. As the Predator says, “Sh!t happens.”
Prologue
Fortunately, I found my flow with the story. I cranked through the prologue and am stepping happily on to Chapter One. Will the prologue wind up in the book, per Kim’s advice? Maybe. Maybe not. I needed it. Whether or not the book does remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, I need to write this stuff in order to understand the story. The actual published work will feature a lot of editing.
Additionally, I’m going to have at least one book of short stories demonstrating the collateral impact of some of the action scenes.
Struggle for Peace
When life is victorious, there is birth; when it is thwarted, there is death. A warrior is always engaged in a life-and-death struggle for Peace.
~Morihei Ueshiba
The father of Aikido makes a good point here. Life is a constant struggle for peace. Peace is curiously a very personal concept.
You’d think there was a universal definition for peace, but there are a plethora. Personal peace. World peace. Moment of peace. All kinds of different peace.
So, what is it to me? Even within myself, there are a variety of kinds of peace.
Peace in the moment: Am I stressed or relaxed?
Peace of mind: Am I content or under duress?
Peaceful living: Am I able to do my do or am I being thwarted by people or circumstance?
One of my favorite hymns growing up was Let There Be Peace On Earth
That song really speaks to me, even though I rarely live up to it. Regardless of my personal failings, at least there is a guidepost for me to aspire to.
Happy Saturday. I hope you’re having a productive day. Thankfully, I am.
