National Cucumber Day 2023

It’s getting pretty close to officially being 🌞Summer🔥, so there’s no better time for National Cucumber Day to roll around.

Mmmm… 🥒

One meal option is a piece of poached chicken the size of your fist with a green salad sprinkled with lemon juice, carrots, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and celery. Another is a cup and a half of quinoa with minced veggies, all cooked at once so the quinoa absorbs the nutrients. ~Anna Kaiser

Straight off the bat, I love cucumbers. They’re great in a salad, sandwich, stir-fry or just in slices for a snack.

They’re tasty. Apparently, they’re good for someone in my situation. As the doctor below mentions, they help to bring down blood sugar.

Another thing cool about today is the weather. Being that it’s nearly 🌞Summer🔥, you’d expect it to be miserably hot. Thank goodness, it isn’t.

Yet another cool thing about today is that it is Flag Day. What’s not cool is Admin46 chose to loudly and proudly violates flag etiquette with their recent display of flags at the White House. What can one say but Let’s Go Brandon!

13 Amazing Benefits and Uses of Cucumbers

Cucumbers are almost as good in their pre-pickle form as they are in the brine. They are particularly excellent sliced into a salad.

Given the variety of sizes that pickles come in, I’m surprised that I haven’t seen raw cucumbers in this array.

So, I’m aware that cucumbers shrink while pickling. This might explain why you don’t see unpickled cucumbers the size of your pinky.

I figured I’d dive into the mystery a bit, so here you go:

I’ve spent some more time writing this week, so I’m up to about Chapter 15. The Sentinels have turned a corner, but it has prodded the villains to up their antagonism.

This puts me about 1/3 of the way along. This is also puts me somewhere between points 2 and 3 of the 7 Point Story Structure.

7 Point Story Structure by Dan Wells

How do I know I’m about 1/3 of the way along? Superhero Fiction generally falls under Action/Adventure or possibly Urban Fantasy categories.

The genre standard book length for these categories is about 90,000 words. I’m averaging 2000 words per chapter, giving me 45 chapters to get to 90K words overall.

Also 15 chapters of 45 would also be 1/3 of the overall book length. Given the 7 Point Story Structure, 7 points over 45 chapters is about 15½% per story point. As such, 1/3 would be 33.33% of the way along. Point 1 would be about 15.5%. Point 2 would be about 31%, so 33.33% falls between Points 2 and 3.

Didn’t realize you’d be getting data geekery from a part-time novelist, did you?

Well, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m trying to figure out how to hack my default “discovery writing” mode. Data analysis like the stuff above is my way of trying to understand where I’m at, where I’m going and how to get there.

A lot of this is largely intuitive for me at this point, but it’s good to stop and do some analysis periodically.

That’s it. National Cucumber Day, Flag Day, Donald Trump’s Birthday, all good stuff today. Have a happy rest of the week.
