Ice Cream for Breakfast Day 2025

Here’s an idea I’m happy to wake up to. It’s Ice Cream for Breakfast Day!

🍦 Love Is… 🍨

Love is an ice cream sundae, with all the marvelous coverings. Sex is the cherry on top. ~Jimmy Dean

It’s been a long week and I have no desire to get my tired arse up out of bed, but it would be easier to stir myself if I knew there was ice cream waiting for me.

This is a bit of that work / life balance I’ve been talking of. I get to just take the darn day off to do not-job stuff.

I’ll probably do the taxes, even though that feels like job stuff. We’ll see how tired I am or how jazzed up my breakfast ice cream gets me.

What even is breakfast ice cream? For me, it would probably be ice cream with nuts and berries on it as if it was a bowl of oatmeal.

For people who are serious about it…

I think bacon ice cream would probably have a pleasant novelty about it, but I don’t think I’d want it all the time.

Coffee ice cream? Totally. I can absolutely get behind coffee ice cream as breakfast ice cream.

Probably some kind of maple swirl with walnuts or something in it. That would make awesome breakfast ice cream.

Ultimately, there’s something inherently wonderful and rebellious about having ice cream for breakfast.

It’s counter-culture. It’s defiant. It’s against the norm. If you can’t skate outside of your lane on the weekends, when can you?

🍦 Like I Love… 🍨

I love drafting like I love eating ice cream or having sex; I love revising like I love doing logic puzzles; I love line-editing like I love perfectly organizing a bookshelf; I hate reviewing copyedits and the second round of proofreading because, by then, I’m getting pretty tired of my own words. They all have their own challenges, though. ~Tim Pratt

I haven’t gotten to Tim’s level of obsession.

I’m obsessed with writing my stories. I put myself in the story and record what I see.

The whole thing about editing and proofreading is not something I’m obsessed with.

It’s something that needs doing. One must produce a completely processed and packaged book.

To me, it’s needful tedium and I’m only too glad to lend most of the effort to automated tools like ProWritingAid.

The final draft is still on me. The nice thing is that it gives me a chance to read the story again from beginning to end, ensuring that there are no glaring flubs, typos or whatever.

Again, though, that feels like job stuff and I’m entirely too exhausted to do it yet. I want to zombie out this weekend and do nothing. Maybe I will.

Maybe I will over a bowl of ice cream. Guess we’ll see…

That’s all for today. While I rarely (but not never) eat ice cream for breakfast, next time is all about something I do as often as humanly possible. See you on Wednesday.
