National Pierogi Day 2025
The hump in this week’s Hump 🐪 Day is a popular Polish dumpling. It’s National Pierogi Day, so let’s caramelize some onions and dig in.
A Local Favorite 🥟
What’s your favorite food and why is it pierogies? ~Mrs. T’s Pierogis
Mrs. T’s is a local favorite and I can drive right past their headquarters on the way from Mahanoy City over to Frackville.
Coal Country has a strong Slavic representation, including our awesome Poles.
Pierogis, halushki, kielbasi, gołąbki, paprikas and all the amazing dishes you find from church potlucks to carnival comfort food courtesy of our Polish neighbors.
Today, in particular, it’s the humble pierogi.
A potato-stuffed dumpling that can be dressed up with a touch of cheddar cheese, onion, chives or whatever you want to add to the potato filling.
Mrs. T’s makes a variety so you don’t have to, so thank you to the Twardzik family for building a business that keeps our families fed.
How To 🥟 Polish Style
How to Make Pierogi – The Polish Chef
Pierogis are great boiled, pan fried or deep fried.
Crunchy, chewy or gooey work well for a hearty 🍂Autumn🍂 dinner.
They’re good as a dinner by themselves or with a side of kielbasa.
Wrap your head around that.
The dumplings are the main dish, and you cut sausage in among the pierogi as an accent flavor.
Freaking wild.
People dunk on the Poles for being dumb Polacks. There are countless Polack jokes, but I’ve found that Polish people are actually some of the smartest people I’ve ever met.
How dumb can you be with a menu like this?
Pure genius, culinary or otherwise…

🥟 Fruits of Originality
All good things which exist are the fruits of originality. ~John Stuart Mill
I don’t have a clean segue from pierogi to writing, but here we are.
I’m making some respectable mileage with this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance.
💡🎄🌟 Goodness & Lights 🌟🎄💡 has a first draft for 7 of 38 episodes so far.
Early October, and I’m already at 18%. Nice.
Boy, am I exhausted, though.
I have difficulty refraining from writing during the week, so I wind up burning the candle at both ends and using every last brain cell in my noggin.
This leaves me with precious little capacity to do anything of use.
That’s alright, though. 🍂Autumn🍂 is the heart of 🍁🧸☕ Cozy Season ☺️🥧🍂 and there’s nothing cozier than a nice nap.
The funny thing about exhaustion is that you wind up napping whether you want to or not.
My body needs sleep despite my natural impulse to stay up late writing.
Eventually, biology draws the boundaries of what you can accomplish.
Fortunately, I have my Mondays to make up the difference.
Even more fortunately, it actually matters this year.
That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for a Polish hero of the American Revolution…
