Stack of pancakes split into two tops—one with dripping maple syrup and butter, the other with berry jam—on a breakfast table by a window with melting snow and early spring green outside.

Syrup or Jam

What better way to kick off the weekend than with a fluffy stack of 🥞 pancakes 🥞? The mind naturally leaps to butter and syrup, but have you ever had your pancakes with apricot jam?

Apparently, Mr. Twan was all about the McGriddle. Who can blame him?

Truth be told, I’m even a fan of pancakes and peanut butter.

Lacking bread for sandwiches, pancakes make an awesome PB&J.

Honestly, they make great cookies once they’re cool enough to handle.

Can you really go wrong including pancakes in pretty much everything?

I don’t think so. Pancakes are versatile enough to hold sweet, savory or to eat stand-alone.

Well, just great. Now I’m having a pancake craving… 😕

Perfectly Fluffy Pancakes Every Time! Simple & Delicious!

Well, that being the case, it’s a great thing that there are so many lovely videos on how to make the perfect pancake.

What does that actually mean, though?

Do you want light, fluffy pancakes?

Are you into dense, hearty buckwheat pancakes?

Do you like your pancakes with chocolate chips incorporated or possibly strawberry or blueberry bits?

Maybe you like these Japanese soufflé pancakes that look amazing to me.

Drama is very important in life: You have to come on with a bang. You never want to go out with a whimper. Everything can have drama if it’s done right. Even a pancake. ~Julia Child

There’s drama and there’s drama.

To quote Sean Connery from an awards show appearance, “I prefer my audience to be stirred, not shaken.” Right?

I prefer the organic kind rather than the TikTok variety.

Screaming and carrying on is fine when it fits, but you can’t have a whole story of that.

Sometimes you need a gentle breeze. Sometimes you need a hurricane.

Drama is how the story sucks you in and takes you for a ride.

Sometimes you need a serene Sunday drive. Sometimes you need Space Mountain.

My sister? She didn’t care so much for Space Mountain, but you need some of that in your repertoire to keep the story interesting.

What’s interesting to me is how I keep seeing these mirror moments in The Sentinels series.

It’s almost like I know what I’m doing. 🙄 Honestly, though, I trust my process and it’s paying off for me.

As to the earlier reference to apricot jam on pancakes, that’s an inside joke for whoever winds up reading The Sentinels: New Blood.

All I can say is that Zoe, the goth waitress, has mixed feelings on the topic.

That’s all for today. See you back on Wednesday for a blush of robins…
