Allan Is 18!
Yes, friends. The baby of the family is now all grow’d up and nearly ready to spread his wings. Of course, he has to finish 12th Grade, but that’s just an extra couple of months to decide what he’s going to do next.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. ~Khalil Gibran
This is an interesting season of life.
Our kids are technically no longer kids, but they’ll always be our children.
Emmeline and Connor are away at college.
Dorothy has her cosmetology career.
Allan is finishing up his high school studies.
At some point, we’ll have the place to ourselves again…
Won’t that be weird?
Happy Birthday, Allan

It’s been a long strange trip, but you’re now legally an adult.
You’re a 2nd Degree Black Belt and an Eagle Scout.
You have agency. You can make decisions.
It’s time to start thinking seriously about the future.
Whatever you decide, we’ll back you as best we can.
We just want you to be happy, healthy and prosperous.
That’s all we’ve ever wanted for you.
Go out and do something awesome.
We know you can if you put your mind to it.
What’s The Plan?
In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower
This is typically what has gotten me through my Holiday Season Serial Romances even if I was running right up to the wire.
It’s not so much that I have a fully developed plan as some people do. I have a basic idea of who’s involved and I can ride the RomCom beats to add a bit of tension. Even so, it’s a given that there will be a happily ever after.
The only question is how they finally settle into a relationship and how many snowballs they get splatted with along the way.
The Hunt for Red October (1990) – “Russians don’t take a dump, son…”
The Nanny’s butler turns up yet again…
For The Sentinels, it’s a bit different. It’s a multi-generational epic rather than a quick holiday season romp.
I’m going to need something more concrete than a standardized genre formula to skate on.
This is going to be 13 books for the core tale along with any ancillary works that get added to the milieu.
There must be a level of continuity that won’t irk my readers and eventual fans.
In order to pull that off, there needs to be a plan.
Shame I haven’t got one yet.
What I have is an inkling and part of a book I wrote from about 77% of the way along the grand arc of the series. It’s going to take more than an inkling and a vague notion of where to wind up in order to get this one done.
Fortunately, I actually have a bit of a clear head to go about it for once.
Yeah, i’m still swamped as heck at work and that’s bugging me but I ended my work day with a better state of mind than usual yesterday.
I actually feel like I can compartmentalize things long enough to give this plan a serious effort this weekend. I guess we’ll see how that turns out.
If you see Allan today, say 🎂 Happy Birthday 🎂 if only because it will kind of annoy him. 🤣
