Closing Cozy
πSummerπ₯ is over and so the first of our lovely “-ber” months will be as well. Thank goodness, π Autumn π has begun in earnest. God willing, October will be even cooler and cozier.
π Fall π In πΒ Love π
It is an extra dividend when you like the girl you’ve fallen in love with. ~Clark Gable
And so I do.Β Lucky, lucky me!
I have the good fortune of liking the girl I fell in love with and it’s been paying dividends since 1990.
Her whimsical ways, her joyous cackling, her bombshell figure and her bottomless well of love and compassion have been paying me endless dividends for most of my adult life.
She brightens my days like a mountain of gold.
The only thing that makes me happier than the arrival of π Autumn π is the ever-loving presence of my darling wife.
What does not make me happy is having more work than hours to work on it. π π‘π I’m trying to get some of these projects wrapped up, but stuff simply will not stay fixed.
Fortunately, I get to bed down with Kelly every night and let her cozy love comfort me to sleep. If I can’t get away from work while I’m awake, at least she can help me relax and forget about it for a few hours.
πβ Hygge π©π°π
So what is Danish hygge?
In π Autumn π, I’m particularly mindful of the notion of coziness. As miserable as πSummerπ₯ is for me, π Autumn π is a glorious relief. I wait eagerly for cool days and long cold nights.
Partly, this is because I generate a great deal of body heat. It shocks people but I’m quite comfortable between 0-55Β°F. I don’t even think about putting on a coat until it drops below 20Β°F. That’s just how I roll.
The other part of it is that I adore all the cozy comforts of the cooler times of the year. Warm beverages, hot meals, freshly baked desserts all bring a smile to my face.
So, when I heard of this concept of “hygge”, it naturally resonated with me. This is exactly how I prefer to live.
If there was a place that was perpetually π Autumn π, with a week or two of βοΈ Winter βοΈ, πSpringπ· and πSummerπ₯, I’d move there in a heartbeat.
Naturally, that wouldn’t be ecologically viable, but having a holodeck in my house would be the next best thing. Frankly, you’d have a hard time prying me out of one if such a thing did exist.
See What Happens
Let your mind alone, and see what happens. ~Virgil Thomson
One of the many benefits of the hygge joy of π Autumn π is that it gets my creative juices flowing.
The existential happiness that accompanies the season frees up the part of my brain that is otherwise distracted by resenting the heat, humidity and other unpleasantness associated with that least favorite of seasons.
To this end, my No Mondays Policy is scheduled to accommodate my Holiday Season Serial Romance writing schedule. Of course, there’s something to be said for not getting a Case of the Mondays.
Having a long stretch of long weekends that are even more enjoyable due to the improved weather conditions and diminished daylight facilitates my creative endeavors.
That’s fast approaching, but not here yet. For the moment, I have to deal with the projects that have been bugging me all πSummerπ₯. Just like the dreaded season of heat, the sooner these projects come to an end, the happier I’ll be.
That’s all for this glorious Hygge Hump Day. I hope you’re having a cozy and productive week.
