Filet of Hump Day
In theory, we’re coming to the end of the COVID19 quarantine period. In reality, we’re coming to the end of our patience.
Hanging Around
Sittin’ on the dock of the bay + lyrics
That might be applicable if we were allowed to go to the docks. Social distancing is soooo last month. Doesn’t seem to matter that you’re outside and can stay more than 6′ away from everybody, people are being arrested for walking totally alone on the beach or in the park or just about anywhere.
The math really isn’t in the tyrants’ favor. If the magic number is two weeks, why are we all cooped up for 6-8?
Also, quarantine is for sick people. We need a LOT more testing. When somebody is CONFIRMED to be infected, you put THAT PERSON in quarantine until the two weeks are up or until their symptoms require medical intervention.
Quarantining healthy people is killing the economy and driving people bats. Enough is far more than enough already.
What’s for Dinner?
Pan-seared Bacon-wrapped Filet Mignon – Bruce Holley
We’re coming up on our 28th Anniversary, so my parents were kind enough to send us a care package from Omaha Steaks. It’s a kind gesture that’s greatly appreciated. We’re starting off with the tasty Filet Mignons. I’m going to grab some bacon out of the fridge and treat us to a little gourmet supper.
What to have with it? I’m thinking of potatoes with green and wax beans. I will be sauteeing mushrooms, onions and anything else that jumps out of the fridge at me.
All the Feelz
Art is the objectification of feeling. ~Herman Melville
The Sentinels are making their big move on the Gats. There are definitely feelings that go with that. They’ve had a major spat about how to address the problem. They’ve got dreadful feelings about the collateral damage. They’ve got visceral feelings about the impact of bullets on their super bodies.
This story is very much about feelings and that’s drama.
The superhero genre is ostensibly about the action and the miscellaneous property damage. Real fans of comics know that there’s always a lot more drama than the Bam! Biff! Pow!
That’s part of what drew me to the genre in the first place. A well-done superhero story is going to hit all of the high points of storytelling. For all of the high points, you’ve also got to delve into the low points.
Bad guys who wear funny costumes and depend on schtick might have worked on network TV in the 60s and 70s but I’d like my characters to be believable (insofar as superheroes can be). The gangsters need to be people with unfortunate motives rather than bipedal punching bags. The members of the Conclave need to be living in a hidden world of opulence and dark schemes. The heroes’ friends and relatives need to be regular people with jobs and normal concerns. Stock characters are a good kicking off point, but I’d like the Sentinelsverse to feel like a real place.
We’ll see if I get there.
I hope you’re having something tasty for dinner tonight. Thanks to Nana & Pop, we certainly are!
