National Banana Day 2025
I’m a bit late getting this one done, but wait no longer! Even my dear Emmeline will be excited to know that today is National Banana Day!

Time flies like an arrow – but fruit flies like a banana. ~Terry Wogan
Time tends to fly whether you’re having fun or not.
If you don’t eat your bananas in a timely fashion, that’s not fun either.
In either case, you can make your own fun because there’s almost always a chance to turn drudgery or suffering into something more bearable, possibly even fun.
Mindset is everything.
Some things genuinely suck and cannot be turned into a net positive.
Trying to pass a kidney stone? Definitely no upside to that.
I’ve had a few and, in retrospect, I can assure you there is no opportunity to flip that to the fun side.
However, few things in life are as dire as that.
Working can be pain or pleasure.
It’s all about mindset.
Even overripe or nearly blackened bananas are good for something.
They can provide a marvelous flavor to banana bread, cookies, blended into an ice cream substitute or any number of wonderful banana desserts.
It’s all a matter of controlling your perspective.

What Will Happen if You Eat 2 Bananas a Day |

Certainly, there are some days where all I get to eat is a banana or two, simply because I’m too busy to bother with anything else.
Had no idea there was a distinct health benefit to doing so. Who knew?

How monkeys eat bananas even in winter || feeding bananas to the monkey
There is a cultural notion that monkeys and bananas go together like PB&J.
Certainly, not all monkeys live in habitats where bananas grow, but you have to admit it’s really cute watching monkeys eat their bananas.

Bananas have even inspired songs, TV shows and 80s pop bands.
What’s not to love about a banana? They’re nature’s perfect candybar.
Don’t tell Emmeline, though. ๐ She totally hates them. ๐

Shelf ๐ Life
Intellectual property has the shelf life of a banana. ~Bill Gates
There are a number of reasons for this statement.
At this point, US copyright law holds that a work of prose (such as the books I’m writing) is protected for the life of the author plus seventy years.
Personally, I’m okay with that. That allows you to create a legacy for your kids and possibly your grandkids.
If you can channel your ongoing earnings for sales of books and derivative works or licensed uses such as movies or merchandise into other investments, you can create generational wealth that will survive the eventual end of copyright.
Also, it is currently under consideration that AI models would be allowed to consume mass amounts of published works in order to further train the models.
I don’t know the details of that, but it’s got strong proponents both for and against.
Honestly, though, does it really matter?
There are people out there who rip off intellectual property with ruthless abandon.
Even if you file a copyright infringement claim against someone, the next little scammer will come along and take the place of the person or business you’re suing.
Ultimately, copyright only protects the actual work.
You can expect to get whacked for producing Harry Potter items (toys, tooth brushes, packets of tissues, bubble wands, birthday cake plates, etc) without permission and paying the relevant licensing fees.
However, you can merely expect to be squinted at for producing Boy Wizard and his Funny Friends items.
There are so many trend chasers. Once you know something is popular, there are armies of will-write-for-quick-profits types out there who will drown the market with “the latest thing”.
Certainly, if zombies are the latest thing you can hardly be blamed for trying to ride that wave.
However, if sparkly vampires are the latest thing, it bends credibility to ride that particular wave.
There’s nothing new under the sun.
There are westerns, police procedurals, whodunits, psychological thrillers, political intrigue thrillers, westerns, space operas, hard scifi, war stories, historical fiction, speculative fiction and so much more.
There is nothing new under the sun and there is room for every author and creator alive.
You can create your own original interpretation of whatever you choose to write about.
You will hold the copyright to your unique pieces of genius for the rest of your life and for nearly another lifetime after you pass on.
In the grand scheme of things, that ripens and spoils nearly as quickly as a banana.
So, make the most of your creations while you can.
As someone who has finished a handful of books already, I can say that the simple act of completing, formatting and publishing a book is as sweet as any fresh banana.
That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for thoughts on a state that had a distinct impact on my life.
