National Deviled Egg Day 2024
While I typically think of these as a summertime picnic food, today is National Deviled Egg Day. If you ask my son, there’s no bad time to have Deviled Eggs.
Egg Suit?
I like to think of deviled eggs as a suit. The egg white and filling are like the jacket and pants – they’re the main attraction, and the part that the egg is largely going to be judged by. ~J. Kenji Lopez-Alt
While I share Connor’s love of a good Deviled Egg, I have no inclination to wear one as a suit.
That’s kind of weird, but specialists can get so caught up in their specialties that they make odd references like this.
As a computer guy, I can sometimes explain things in terms of programming or datasets. Goes with the territory.
Even so, I don’t see a circumstance in which I would ever depict Deviled Eggs as a suit.
That being said, I’m a fan of these picnic staples. The great thing about them is that the hard boiled whites provide a finger-safe, edible spoon for the delectable yolk mixture.
I like when there’s enough mustard to give the stuffing a little zing that’s further enhanced by the sprinkling of paprika.
I’ve seen some versions where people top it with a sliced green olive or include diced celery or peppers in the mixture.
That’s alright, but I like a basic egg. Less frills. Yolk, mayo, mustard and paprika. Keep it simple and tasty.
How To
DEVILED EGGS | how to make the best deviled eggs recipe (paleo, keto, whole30)
To that end, I found you a lovely tutorial 👆🏾 on making great Deviled Eggs.
The nice thing is, these are completely admissible for my current A1C diet.
So, not only do I already like them, but I can have them without a tinge of guilt or concern.
Kelly thought I was crazy for buying a two-pack of dozen and a half eggs, but I’m already through the first carton and this simple recipe is tempting me quite a bit.
In case I’m being too subtle, hint, hint, I want Deviled Eggs ASAP. Thank you.
Deep Hunger
When you have that deep kind of hunger that is part longing, what’s better to eat than the best apple pie? Or the best potato salad and guacamole? Or the best deviled eggs and crab cakes and white chocolate raspberry pie? ~Elizabeth Berg
I am happy to report that despite the shift in my dietary practices, I am not currently craving a lot of the stuff I would usually eat.
In the short term, that’s a question of novelty. I’m sure that at some point, I’m going to start longing for something that just isn’t on the menu.
On the other hand, I’ve been too darn busy to eat lately. Between data conversion and trying to write The Lights of Pine Hollow, I’m lucky if I remember to stop and grab a piece of cheese or a handful of peanuts.
Sure, sometimes I’ll stop and make myself an actual meal, but I’ve been really occupied the last few days.
Theoretically, I should be losing weight. If all I’m eating is a few spoons of peanut butter (the natural kind, nothing but peanuts) and the odd wedge of cheese (the little business card sized ones), that’s got to have some kind of effect.
The good news is I finally broke through the December 4th barrier in this year’s story.
The bad news is that I’m still typically too exhausted after a day of work to do any writing.
Nevertheless, the show must go on. The book must get written and I’d like to have most of it completed before Thanksgiving.
I do have to format what I have done already for daily release on the site, but that’s a technicality.
So much to do and so little time or energy to do it.
We’re now in the third -ber month of four. The time is just zipping along and I’ve got tons to do.
That’s all for today. It’s the weekend and I am now starving for Deviled Eggs. Some of these post topics hit a little too close to home…
