National Pita Day 2025
It is officially π SpringtimeΒ π·, but it doesn’t feel quite as Mediterranean as one might expect given that today is National Pita Day. Break out the hummus and the tzatziki sauce so we can get our snack on and really enjoy a lovely Saturday.

It’s kind of exciting for today to be National Pita Day since I happen to like pita bread.
I like most kinds of bread: rye, pumpernickel, naan, sourdough, pita…
The neat thing about pita is that it’s light and has a built-in pocket, making it perfect for tuna salad, chicken salad or any kinds of saucy, gooey sandwich fillings.
I’m also quietly amused by the fact that pita is an oft-cited acronym for something we all experience too much of in life.

That’s the only kind of pita I don’t like, so let’s accentuate the positive and get back to this light, tasty bread.

How to Make Pita Bread
Bread with pockets is an automatic winner for me. The bread is soft, so it helps to fill it with something that has some bite.
Pita also has a light, neutral taste. This makes it a perfect platform for strong flavors because the bread doesn’t get in the way of the sandwich.
The pockets are optional, so you can also use the pita for wraps or folded up like a hoagie roll.
It’s a very versatile sort of bread, since you can tear it into pieces to dip in your hummus or leave it whole to hold your souvlaki.
Speaking of which, it would hardly be a day celebrating pita bread if I didn’t include a video on how to make a tasty DIY gyro.

I woke up to a pleasant surprise yesterday. I received a message from the management announcing that I’d won an Above and Beyond Award.
It was very kind and I appreciate it quite a lot. I can certainly say that I feel valued at my job. I do not lack for esteem and positive feedback.
I’m looking forward to having that kind of adulation for my books at some point. All authors hope that their work is well received.
In the meantime, I’m pleased with the progress I’m making on The Sentinels: New Blood. Just finished the first draft of Chapter 34 the other day and am pressing on as time allows.
While I’m enjoying the way it’s progressing, I still haven’t found the lynchpin events to serve as inspiration for the companion piece anthology, Collateral Impact.
It’s probably because I’m too focused on the plot at hand to see the hook points for these related works. It’s one of those things that will eventually come to me in a shower epiphany.
Until then, I need to think of what I’d like to fill my pita with this weekend. That gyro recipe looks great, but I don’t have the ingredients handy. Maybe a chicken gyro instead.
