National SBDC Day 2024

Today is National Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) Day. If I wasn’t out of my mind busy with work, this might be of some use to me.

A Story Worth Knowing

Behind every small business, there’s a story worth knowing. All the corner shops in our towns and cities, the restaurants, cleaners, gyms, hair salons, hardware stores – these didn’t come out of nowhere. ~Paul Ryan

Okay, he’s not a great guy but the quote is good. So, there we are.

It’s nice to know that these resources are available to help build the small businesses that make American society really run.

Sure, we have big box stores and multinational corporations, but even they depend on local suppliers, services, restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores at their various locations.

Why, why, why was this not taught in public school? Everybody’s got to go to college. That’s the big message in high school, but that’s been a disastrous policy.

Kids should learn all the options and those who buck the trend and decide to open a shop or other small business typically only do so when they’ve got someone in the family or a neighborhood mentor to show them how.

This should not be a secret. This should not be completely unknown to 99 out of 100 people on the street. We should celebrate our local businesses and encourage kids coming out of school to start new ones or learn the ropes so they can take over existing ones when the owners are ready to retire.

Celebrate America’s #1 Small Business Resource March 20th – SBDC Day!

I’m rather lucky. It turns out there are SBDC’s in Kutztown and Reading. That’s a great resource within reasonable driving distance.

Unfortunately, I’m way too damn busy, tired and broke to even consider making use of them.

I will be researching more on entrepreneurialism to better understand how to run Nerdsylvania Publishing LLC.

That, like dealing with my utterly whacked finances (thanks, Joe), is a relatively long term project.

Hopefully, when I can get back above water, these resources will still be available for me to take advantage of.

Money Talks

A small business can survive for a while without making a profit, but if its cashflow dries up, the impact is fatal. ~Theo Paphitis

Nerdsylvania Publishing LLC is on life support. I’m limping along in the short term. It’s annoying.

I got a little writing done recently, but I’m not sure I’m happy with it. It’s still about being so far behind at work.

I literally can’t accomplish a damn thing these days. That’s super frustrating, but I’m too tired to care at the moment.

I usually take this space to examine some aspect of writing or give some idea of my thought process. Nope. Not today. I’ve got nothing.

I might even riff on the fact that yesterday was the first day of 💐 Spring 🌷. Can’t do it. Sure, we’re out of my 🍂favorite half of the year ❄️, but I don’t even have the oomph to grouse about that.

I’ve got nothing in the tank, nothing at all. I’m tired and the week is only halfway over. Somebody call me a waaambulance… 🚑

That’s all for today. I’m just tired. It’s Wednesday. I’m busy. I’m exhausted. I hope you’re having a better week than me. 💐 Happ🀦 Spring 🌷
