National Scavenger Hunt Day 2025

Good thing National Scavenger Hunt Day fell on a Saturday this year. πŸ’ Spring 🌷 weekends are a great time for getting out on an adventure.

πŸ—ΊοΈΒ Thought Of As A Scavenger Hunt πŸ”

Searching is half the fun: life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party. ~Jimmy Buffett

Well, unless you’re me. In which case, it’s a great time to stay in and take a bubble bath before getting back to my writing.

I had my big adventure last week and that’s quite enough for the time being.

We will, however, be venturing out to celebrate the birthday of our Son-in-Law’s mom.

She’s a lovely woman, so it’s always a treat to catch up with her.

As for Memorial Day, writing.

Kelly got some burgers to grill up, but I’m going to be writing as much this extended holiday weekend as I can.

How to Build a Treasure/Scavenger Hunt: The Basic Formula

If you’re the sort who likes to go out, I found this instructional video for your enjoyment.

Go ahead and plan a fun, silly scavenger hunt for your friends and relatives to enjoy.

For me, the only thing worse than going out would be going out with the expectation that you’ll be out running around randomly all day instead of writing.

To each their own. I’m quite cozy here and in no need of adventures, thank you very much.

Nasty, uncomfortable things that make you late for dinner.

πŸ”Ž On The Hunt πŸ—ΊοΈ

I’m a big people watcher and a people talker. The beautiful thing about being an artist and a creative person is that you can get an idea from anywhere, and I’m always on the hunt for them. ~Ava DuVernay

The one redeeming thing about going out (apart from perhaps arriving at a bookstore) is that I get to observe people of all kinds.

You never know when a character who needs to be in your work might turn up.

I like people-watching. Looking for mannerisms, odd turns of phrase, distinctive features or styles of dress is a kind of mental scavenger hunt.

It seems a bit dismissive to say that a lot of people are fairly plain NPCs, but it’s sadly true.

Burly bearded bald guy? There were dozens in the line waiting for Josh Gates.

Blonde and brunette moms. Cute couples. Goths and emos. Proudly performative weirdos.

All by the dozens and fully interchangeable.

There were a few stand-outs, but they didn’t quite make the cut.

A lot of these folks were more suitable to Tales Of Olde Auringia with or without wardrobe adjustments.

Ultimately, that’s the downside of a scavenger hunt. You might not find the treasure you’re looking for.

Some would argue that the very adventure outweighs the potential treasure that might be found.

I would argue that I don’t get a sunburn when I stay home and write my stories.

That’s all for today. See you back on Wednesday for a tasty entrΓ©e.
