National Strawberries and Cream Day 2025

Hump πŸͺ Day is that much sweeter when the hump in question is a πŸ“ in your cream. Today is National Strawberries and Cream Day, which is a perfect opportunity to get a taste of 🌞 Summer πŸ”₯ right before Memorial Day.

πŸ“ They Go Together 🍦

Poetry and music are very good friends. Like mommies and daddies and strawberries and cream – they go together. ~Nikki Giovanni

Yes, some things absolutely go together naturally.

May is a transitional period and, like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.

Saturday was absolutely as hot as any July or August day, but yesterday I woke up to 47Β°F.

Even so, being on the cusp of 🌞 Social Summer πŸ”₯ leads to thoughts of seasonal treats featuring berries and other light flavors.

Lemonade, watermelon, pasta salad and chilled dishes are the order of the day and will continue to be so until my favorite season changes the flavor profile.

🎾πŸ₯‡ Signature Dessert πŸ“πŸ¦

How to make Wimbledon’s signature dessert Strawberries & Cream

As much as I detest the hotter months of the year, even I have a soft spot for seasonal flavors and chilled dishes.

Potato salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad, green salads, melons, berries and stone fruit are a worthwhile distraction from the dreadful temps and unrelenting sunshine.

There’s a seasonal treat I heard about in German class back in high school that I’ve always wanted to try.

It sounded absolutely marvelous. Erdbeerbowle seems to be a kind of strawberry limeaid that can be minty or saturated in booze.

While I was trying to find a recipe video for it, I also saw this 2 ingredient strawberry sorbet recipe. This sounds fantastic.

πŸ’ Sweet Callbacks πŸ“

One must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

See what I did there? This quote from Goethe is a callback to Saturday’s post about Cherry Cobbler.

This whole blog may seem like a random piece of my disorganized mindspace.

Fair enough, but sometimes I’m able to throw in a callback for thematic purposes and for SEO “link juice”.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

All the same, real life is messy and disorganized. Callbacks aren’t as easy to orchestrate as they are in prose.

In made-up stories, we can employ foreshadowing, callbacks, thematic echoes and lots of other little story ornaments to make people think we’re clever.

I’m as guilty of such things as any other writer.

I want to tell a good story, but I also want the story to be good enough for people to want to tell me they thought it was good.

Is that egotistical? Perhaps, but I’m as human as the next guy. I want my work to be appreciated enough for people to want to say so.

Everybody likes an attaboy, even a crusty old introvert like myself.

That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for less calories and more actionπŸ—ΊοΈπŸ“.
