She’s Catching Up
My beloved wife and lifelong bestie’s birthday is tomorrow. She’s always amused to be a year younger than me, but she takes particular joy in the fact that she’s two years younger than me for two and a half weeks each year.
Happy 🎂 Birthday (Tomorrow)
The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance. ~Brian Tracy
And she has given me exactly that since the first day we met back in 1990. It’s my absolute blessing to have her in my life.
No matter how busy I get, how frustrating things get, how oppressive life can become, I’ve always got a ray of hope with a matching wedding ring.
She is my everything and always will be.
Because she is everything to me, I want her to have everything she needs for as long as I can give it to her.
Something I can never go wrong providing is…
Chocolate, Chocolate And More Chocolate
How to make Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting | For Beginners | Step by Step
Just as I prefer Angel Food cake for my birthday, Kelly is a definite fan of chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
Needless to say, the feast for the eyes in the video above is something I will probably never make.
I will, indeed, be making chocolate cake with chocolate icing, but mine’s from a box. C’mon, man! I’m an author and a programmer but I’m no pastry chef.
A Mere Copier
A mere copier of nature can never produce anything great. ~Joshua Reynolds
I don’t know what old Josh is on about. Most of art is merely copying nature.
Some paint or sculpt nearly photographic representations of people, flora or fauna. Quite a few of these are considered great.
Some present a recollection of how a place or time or a thing made them feel. There are entire schools of art that are considered great.
Either way, the arts hold a mirror to the world. What is displayed depends on the angle of the artist in relation to what they’re trying to show.
Even in the field of writing, the explorations of theme, character and conflict demonstrate the writer’s disposition toward the subject matter.
I suppose that’s why I’m currently stalled.
Apart from being preposterously exhausted, I really don’t know how I feel about my subject matter.
I’ve got the basic waypoints of my first story, but there’s more to it than that. I’m just not feeling the whole work yet.
I’m not sure how they’re doing it at the MCU. I’m not sure how the writing teams at Marvel and DC did it for all these years. I’m not even sure how Dickens always managed to spin such an intricate tale.
I just don’t have the mental energy to pull this project together.
I seriously need some sleep and some time with no demands on my mental energy.
The classic writerly approach is to go away in a cabin somewhere and write the Great American Novel.
That’s not for me. I’m already away in a cottage somewhere. I’ve got everything I want right here, particularly my beloved wife.
I just need to go snuggle up with her and get some uninterrupted sleep for once.
I also need to forget about the wide swaths of uninterrupted time. Not gonna happen.
I need to make a project of it. I need to break it up in to manageable pieces. I need to have those pieces be actionable in small increments.
Part of the problem is that I’m continually trying to eat the whole elephant rather than taking it a bite at a time.
Having a strategy and a plan makes the most overwhelming efforts possible.
Unfortunately, I haven’t got either right now. I’ve got a head full of weary and only one place to go with it.
Right into Kelly’s loving arms. She’s my strength and my reason to do anything worth doing.
That’s it for today. I still have to wrap Kelly’s birthday present. I hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
