Pluviophile

It’s another sunny summer-type day and more’s the pity because I totally prefer a mellow grey rainy day.

Clouds Come

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky. ~Rabindranath Tagore

At least, I wish they would.

I’ve been feeling particularly out of sorts lately. There are a number of aggravating factors tugging at my peace of mind.

First among these is a bit of a hangup on the writing. I haven’t written anything new in days and it’s really bugging me.

Add to that a number of non-writing irritants and I’m just about thoroughly out of whack.

I’m not liking life and the miserable sunshine just won’t go away.

Perhaps that makes me a pluviophile. If you’re wondering what a pluviophile is, it’s someone who loves rain or who finds joy and peace of mind on rainy days.

They want thunderstorms sometime tomorrow but I’m anticipating a quick-moving storm front that will tear through in an hour or less.

Here’s hoping for something a bit more substantial and soothing…

A Dose Of Sanity

3 HOURS of Gentle Night RAIN, Rain Sounds for Relaxing Sleep, insomnia, Meditation, Study, PTSD. Rain

Well, if Mother Nature won’t cooperate, you can always count on YouTubers to cover the need.

The Need For Heroes To Confront Evil

What people adore about superhero movies is the signal quality of the Christopher Nolan films – their complete lack of irony when it comes to the portrayal of heroism and the need for heroes to confront evil. ~John Podhoretz

It seems we really need superheroes these days because there is so much evil not being confronted anymore.

There’s something inherently charming about the genre. The basic ability to recognize the bad guys (there’s usually maniacal laughter and wanton property damage involved in their arrival) is a plus.

In real life, the bad guys often think they’re the good guys. There are very few unabashedly bad villains in the world we inhabit.

In the comic book realms, you’ve got escaped Nazis and self-made megalomaniacs. You’ve got secret societies and gangs of villains who are loud and proud of their criminal intent.

The real plus is that since these villains are self-identifying, there’s absolutely no hesitation in accepting that these people should be pounded into submission and jailed.

Reality is usually more nuanced. Villains aren’t so easy to spot.

It’s not like you’ve got people in masks running around in large numbers assaulting people for the fun of it, right?

Today’s a shorty because I’m not feeling particularly garrulous today.
