National Shawarma Day 2025
Today is National Shawarma Day! What more does one need to say? Read on, and let’s get spicy…
π Mediterranean Diet π₯
We maintain that Mediterranean diet, keeping things as fresh as possible. ~Michael Psilakis
I like it.
Putting it right out there. I like shawarma, souvlaki, spanakopita, dolmas, baklava, the whole shebang.
In fact, I like it so much that I threw some shawarma seasoning into a meatloaf a few years ago.
Kelly was unimpressed.
I like that too. It gave me an opportunity to needle her in prose.
In Merry π Bells, Toby brought Merideth back to meet his folks and his mom was serving up some shawarma meatloaf.
It’s enshrined in published prose for the rest of eternity!
I am, however, forbidden to make Irene Belzer’s famous shawarma meatloaf.
Just as well, there’s no ground beef in the freezer for me to make any kind of meatloaf.
π₯ We Should Have Some Shawarma π
Easy Authentic Shawarma Completely From Scratch
If you’re into DIY foodieism, you can actually buy a vertical spit on Amazon.
Again, for me, that’s too much like work.
Easier, quicker and less stressful to have someone who likes to do that take care of it for me.

I’m not sure why this guy went the route of fake meat and tempeh, but at least you can have shawarma of some kind if you’re a vegetarian.
For me, I’m totally on the Irene Belzer train. Meatloaf is made of meat, and it deserves a heaping helping of shawarma spice.
Even the Avengers know that when you’ve just fought an entire alien armada out of New York City, it’s simply time for some shawarma.

π Bring People Together π₯
Food can bring people together in a way nothing else could. ~Yotam Ottolenghi
This is also true.
Food is a love language that transcends international boundaries and cultures.
Especially if there’s shawarma in the mix. I mean, c’mon…
On the other hand, stories are also something that are universally appealing.
People have told stories around the campfire since our days as hunter-gatherers.
We love stories.
We constructed acoustically designed amphitheaters, put vaulted ceilings in churches, built grand theaters, invented the printing press, cinema and television in order to share our most cherished stories (and quite a few more that are simply dreck).
Some weirdos in society are compulsive storytellers. We can’t help it.
We’re full of stories, and we need to let them out.
Unfortunately, my outlet was severely hampered this weekend.
The subsystem that makes the Microsoft Store and its associated programs run at all went tango uniform on me.
It still kind of runs, but it’s a significant sign that the house is fixing to collapse, so I have to try to fix it before the whole operating system implodes.
Kelly doesn’t seem to understand how a computer can run and yet not be running.
It runs, but it doesn’t run correctly.
The progression of not-goodness is alarming in the extreme and I need to get it fixed before it simply doesn’t turn on anymore at all.
Needless to say, this is causing me problems getting π‘ππ Goodness & Lights πππ‘ done.
Until I get this squared away, I’m taking such time as I’m able to try to repair it before the ship goes down permanently.
I’d hate for it to capsize like Guam while I’m counting on it to stay put, so I’m trying to get it properly fixed.
Thank goodness, there’s Copilot to walk me through the steps.
I usually use ChatGPT for stuff, but I figured Microsoft’s built-in AI would be a bit more hip to the details of crashed out Windows features.
It’s been a couple days of this and I’m not a lot closer to having it back in working condition, so we’ll see if I can write next weekend either.
That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for leggings…
