🎖️ Social Summer 👷🏻 began with heroism and the final measure of devotion to our country. It ends with good honest work and a return to seriousness.
It’s the season for vacations and enduring the extremes of what makes our produce grow.
Labor Day not only celebrates American workers, it serves as the capstone on seasonal frivolity.
Back to work. Back to school. Back inside. Back to business as usual.
For some it’s bittersweet.
For others it’s a bleak look ahead to cold weather, snow shoveling and heating bills.
For me?
It’s the gateway to 🍁🧸☕ Cozy Season ☺️🥧🍂, baby!

It’s the freaking Victorians again.
The videos explain how the “can’t wear white after Labor Day” thing came about, but we’ve moved past a lot of their rules and norms already.
In a time before washing machines and cutting-edge detergents, packing the summer whites away for the season made perfect sense.
But…
We have washing machines.
We have space-age cleaning products.
We have climate-controlled, self-propelled vehicles to take us to stores that are open twenty-four hours a day for more of these space-age cleaning products if we run out.
And we can go there after Labor Day, after Veterans Day, after Halloween, after Thanksgiving, anytime throughout Advent or Christmastime wearing white if we freaking want to.
Jeez…

My least favorite season is all about sun and fun, frivolity and taking time to smell the flowers.
Given the back to school and back to work aspect of the seasonal shift, Labor Day becomes a more literal turnstile than the usual burgers & dogs long weekend.
As far as my work on The Sentinels and One Little Thing 💍 goes, I’m certainly aiming for painstaking excellence. We’ll see if I actually arrive there.
As mentioned on Wednesday, I’ve got some housecleaning to attend to before I can really focus on the prose.
What better opportunity than a lovely holiday long weekend to get that knocked out?
