Actually Summer

Yes, it is officially summertime now. The hotter it gets, the more I long for late autumn and wintertime. Oh well, some people like it. If you’re one of them, enjoy it while it lasts.

Sun

Just to keep things in perspective, here’s a little mind-blowing science…

Trippy, right?

Okay, for those of us who aren’t sitting on the outside of the Solar System looking in, the sun is that bright thing that makes it stop being nighttime.

Here’s a bit more down to Earth perspective.

Fun

One of the greatest things about childhood, apart from Christmas, was summertime.

No school.

Long, warm sunny days.

Games.

Freezer pops.

Watermelon.

Swimming pools.

All that…

As much as I hate going outside and hate being hot even more, even I enjoyed summertime as a kid.

Unfortunately, most people don’t get summers off after they graduate. That’s kind of a bummer, but there’s certainly a cure for that. More on that another time.

And Plenty To Do

People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy. ~Anton Chekhov

A lot of people don’t mind not having summers off.

There’s a lot to do to keep the world running.

Some of it is arduous, back-breaking work.

Some of it is so esoteric that you have a hard time calling it work at all.

Everybody has their role to play.

Me? I’ve got books to write and sites to manage.

Whatever it is that keeps you going, I hope you’re doing it because you like doing it. There are so many people who feel trapped by what they do. I was one of them for a long time. It took a disaster for me to change course.

That’s no way to handle your life.

Find your smile. Find your reason for smiling. If you can find value in what you do, it will make doing it that much more fulfilling. If it is not what you were meant for, then for pity’s sake do something else! We’re finally in a buyer’s market. People are hiring again. There’s a great opportunity to find your happy place again. Find your smile and be valuable.

You’ve got about 70 more days to appreciate summer this year and Labor Day (the end of unofficial summer) is only 72 days away. If you’re a snow-lover like me, you’ve got at least 130 more days of miserable heat to endure before there’s even a chance of turning for the better. No worries. If you can find your smile, the weather is irrelevant.
