And The Groundhog Said…
Phil saw his shadow, so don’t break out the gardening supplies just yet.

Every failure is a step to success. ~William Whewell
There’s still a fair amount of experimentation in what I do.
Some of those experiments pan out and some do not.
Fortunately, the ones that don’t pan out make it clear what the correct approach is.
It’s fairly rare that I’m running blindly down a dead-end street.
Rare, but not entirely off the table.
Some failures are a complete waste of time, but I can usually squeeze a bit of lemonade out of them anyway.
All the same, I’ve got tons to do and very little time for random detours.
Fortunately, kinda, I’ve got the next two days off because it’s finally that time.
Yep, time to get the cataract out of my right eye.
In theory, I will wake up sometime tomorrow and it will no longer look like I’m looking through wax paper.
A month on and the left one gets done. Then I won’t be seeing things in double anymore (theoretically).
Gotta have time to recover, after all…

Why Groundhogs Supposedly Predict The Weather On Groundhog Day
As the video mentions, the groundhog tradition is actually a bit fatuous.
Whether Phil sees his shadow or not, it is still going to be six weeks until the 💐Spring Equinox 🌷. It just is.

That being said, there’s still a fair amount of fun involved in the whole groundhog thing.
It’s a fun tradition for the folks in Punxsatawney, PA. It inspired an awesome movie with Bill Murray and it even has its own Rankin and Bass stop-motion holiday special.

The rule in the art world is: you cater to the masses or you kowtow to the elite; you can’t have both. ~Ben Hecht
Once upon a time, the arts depended on upper class sponsors. To some extent, they still do.
It depends on what you’re trying to do.
Some people cater to the rich and famous.
I’m not one of them.
Granted, I won’t chase them away but I’m writing for anyone who actually likes the genres I write in.
Whether it’s people who will be checking my books out of a library for free or those who will pay for top-of-the-line hardcovers, I just want to write my stories for people who enjoy sci-fi/fantasy.
That’s it for today. I’ve got to get to bed early so I can get up to go to the hospital way early in the morning tomorrow…
