Last Weekend Of The First Month

It’s one of those lazy winter weekends. We’ve been maxing and relaxing and recovering from random ailments.

Taking A Mulligan

So, we’ve been binging the whole run of Blue Bloods on Netflix and they keep using this phrase. Not being a golfer, I have no earthly idea what they mean by “taking a Mulligan“. Apparently, it simply means “do-over“. I had no idea what it meant based on context.

Now that I know what it means, I still have no idea why they were saying it in context. Just the same, it’s a very interesting series.

In any case, I’m right back where I was this time last year. 2019 is very much a do-over. Hopefully, there will be no vehicles falling on me this time around.

Wife Rhymes With Life

Happy is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is he who finds that true friend in his wife. ~Franz Schubert

kelly-hatThe one thing that never changes is my love for my lovely wife. I am so lucky and blessed to have my best friend as my wife of almost 27 years.

Current statistics show that 40-60% of American marriages end in divorce. I’m happy to remain in the minority of that tragic state of affairs.

One of the things that helps in keeping a marriage strong is being married on purpose. So many people marry for the wrong reasons.

In my opinion, the best reason is to stay connected with your best friend for life. My wife is the best blessing I’ve had in my entire life. She is a ray of sunshine on my cloudiest day. She makes life fun just being who she is. I can’t imagine life without her. I wouldn’t want to have to.

Like any good marriage, this piece by Schubert is an unfinished masterpiece.

Adventure

A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind. ~Eugene Ionesco

One of the great things about superhero genre fiction is that you can engage in adventure of any kind. There are a lot of tropes and cliches associated with this line of storytelling, but a well-written story in any genre can take even the most tired of recycled storylines and breathe new life into them.

The fantasy angle of the genre allows for plot twists that aren’t available to more realistic genres. Police procedurals have concrete constraints. Romances are given to emotional flights of fancy but are usually grounded in everyday reality. Add superpowers and all bets are off.

I’ve really been laying graphite on paper of late. I’ve got some creative backstory. I’m getting a feeling for the characters. Once I pin down the villains and the basic plot points, I’ll really be in business. I’m going to publish my Sentinels books this year.

There are some matters to attend to this week, so it’s good I’ve had a long relaxing weekend to prepare.
