Best Birthday Present

So, yesterday was my birthday and thank you to everyone who extended kind wishes my way. It wasn’t a great day, actually. Even so, at the end of the day, I still have the best birthday present I could ever want.

I Struck Gold

Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired. ~Robert Frost

In this regard, I have absolutely struck gold.

I do have someone who desires me irresistibly and it brightens my day every time I see her.

It’s a treat and a thrill to be loved so completely and unconditionally by my BFF.

Thank you, Kelly Knowlan, for being the best part of my life for more years than you weren’t.

I was so thrilled when we passed the threshold of having known each other longer than we didn’t.

She’s so wonderful and I couldn’t imagine life without her in it.

Writing Character Descriptions| Reedsy Write-In

I’m always looking around for resources to help me write better. Reedsy is an excellent resource for writers on so many levels.

The content is informative. The marketplace for freelance editors, typesetters, book cover designers and more is top notch. It’s such a valuable one-stop-shop for all things writing.

I’ve been watching Shaelin Bishop’s videos for quite some time and it’s great to see her working in conjunction with Reedsy to really bring phenomenal content to aspiring and experienced writers.

Traumatic Power

The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect. ~Peter A. Levine

In a world where super powers exist, there’s going to be trauma and the Sentinelsverse is no exception.

Obviously, getting a right hook from a guy who can bench press a dump truck would be traumatic but there’s more to it than that.

Dave was kidnapped from the playground when he was in Kindergarten. There’s a wound that still hasn’t healed. Living out in the sticks, the mental health resources weren’t available to help him process the experience.

Meirhe was kidnapped from another dimension in 1989. What she doesn’t remember is that she was held by her abductors for a year and abused. The trauma of this experience caused her to block it out of her memory. As far as she knows, she came directly from her homeworld to The Broncks in 1990.

Trauma of many kinds expresses itself in the characters of my series.

It seems sadistic to inflict all this harm on my characters, but that’s how it is with fiction. We thrive on the suffering of imaginary people.

The key part isn’t the trauma but the heroic way in which the characters rise above it to accomplish amazing things.

That’s it for today. I’m tired and have tons to do. I hope your hump day is serving as a ski slope to a splendid weekend.
