Burly Thursday
Okay, we’re heading into the weekend and it’s time to take stock and refresh a bit.
Manly Grooming
Since we’ve had our manly exercise, there’s a pretty good chance we’re not smelling so fresh or possibly looking a bit rumpled. Well, that’s exactly how a manly man should look after the big game, a strenuous workout or a mind-blowing tryst. For all those other times, we want to be a bit more clean and debonair.
Grow A Mustache
Back in the days of UHF, I used to watch a movie with Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas called “The Vikings”. Their father, Ragnar (played by Ernest Borgnine), said of Kirk Douglas’ character that he was so vain of his pretty face that he wouldn’t let a man’s beard hide it. Ever since then, I had yearned to grow a thick, proper manly beard. In due time, I succeeded. If you can’t manage a full, manly beard you should at least try to grow a mustache to demonstrate your manliness. A whole generation of women were wowed by the brash manliness of Tom Selleck’s mustache on Magnum P.I. Surely, you can do as well if you want to be counted among the manly!
Wear Flannel
Another manly accouterments that I have worn frequently as weather permits is a nice flannel shirt. Plaid is manly. Shirt pockets are manly. Wearing a shirt in lieu of a jacket or coat is manly. Dressing in layers is smart and good for many cool climate activities and flannel shirts are the manly man’s go to item. You can find these shirts in a variety of colors that are suitable for all occasions. There are solid colored shirts and a myriad of plaids. Bright, cheerful plaids and dark, thoughtful ones. Wide patterns and highly complex interwoven plaids are available to the discerning manly man.
Musk is a must
So, we’ve gone beyond the video’s points and are embarking on some of my very own. Do you want to smell like you’ve just run a marathon? Well, if you’ve just run a marathon, maybe. Otherwise, you can be sure that nobody wants to smell you in quite that way. It is manly to cover your natural scent with a borrowed one. Scent is an individual choice and you have to consider the feelings of that special someone in your life as well. I’ve long been a fan of Drakkar Noir for cologne. My day to day deodorant of choice is Dark Temptation by Axe. I just love the musk and spice they’ve blended and the name is tantalizingly manly.
Follow me forward
Just one last day in this week of manliness. Tune in to see the big wrap-up and the clues to being truly and genuinely manly.
