Second Winter

Details, Details

Had a bit of a warm spell on Friday and everybody went nuts thinking that Spring had set in. Geez, people, it’s the middle of January! Did you actually expect that to be that for the rest of the season?

When you’re ready to record and…

Okay, since I’m finally done my AR sequence I was ready to start recording again. Then I realized, I needed to gather some details for the presentation. Then I wondered if I’d finished the bit about my list setup. Then I wondered where the folder with my semi-edited, work-in-progress course videos had moved to. I’ve been shuffling files around my desktop over the last couple of months and I kind of lost track of which what was where.

So, I’m all squared away but I still need to gather my thoughts for the presentation.

The thing about recording as you go is that some of the things that need recording are a one-take deal. I’ve got one take to get this step recorded. So, there are details to attend to:

  • I have to actually have the steps in the right order
  • I have to have the resources ready
  • I have to explain how to get the resources ready
  • I have to not experience technical difficulties in the middle of it
  • I have to have  QUIET !!!!

Feeling some pressure? I am. Thing is, doing a site is considerably more simple and quick to complete when you don’t have to record and comment on every single step and aspect of it on behalf of folks who have absolutely no prior experience or idea of how to do these things. My goodness. The things we do for the good of our fellow man or woman…

Self-Status Report

So, it seems like I’m under a lot of pressure or whatever. No, this is a passion project and I’m managing my obsessive tendencies (more or less) as far as hours on task go, so I’m alright. I’m actually pretty darned jazzed. I also got to go to the library book sale with my beloved wife on Friday. That was fun. I got a variety of very useful books and I got to go on a date all by myself with the love of my life. With four kids at home (even if two of them are technically adults), we don’t actually get a lot of alone time together.

As I said previously, my wife and I have achieved the remarkable milestone of twenty-five years. You don’t get there neglecting your special someone. I have been, but you’re not supposed to if you want to go the distance. Fortunately, she’s very patient and kind and loving and sweet. I’m the luckiest guy alive. That’s my status. I am the luckiest guy alive.

25 years don't happen by accident

Some More Rules

Rule #101: Not yet cited in Star Trek episodes, movies or novels

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them

I can’t afford much right now, but being stupid with my bosom buddy and lifelong pal is one of them. Forebearance for my chronic stupidity is one of the choice benefits of being joined at the soul with bands of gold and vows of eternal devotion. It’s okay, she gets to be daft sometimes too.

Rule #102: Nature decays, but latinum lasts forever

So do I, which is part of the reason I’m so glad it’s wintertime. The bugs are dead. The pollen is safely nestled inside of slowly developing buds and lovingly blanketed in non-allergenic snow. All is quiet and pristine. Sure, you can slip and fall on your head (been there, done that) but you can also go sledding on the hill in back of your house. You can also stay inside and work on your passive income projects. Nobody pays in gold pressed latinum yet, but there’s always bitcoin right?

Rule #103: Sleep can interfere with…💤

Yeah, sleep can definitely interfere with life and business and productivity and whatever you’d rather be doing.

Truth is, not sleeping can interfere far more. Up to 30% of Americans are chronically sleep deprived. Lack of sleep can lead to grumpiness, lack of focus, obesity, heart disease and possibly diabetes. Catching up on sleep can:

  • help you slim down
  • boost mental health and immune response
  • fends off diabetes and heart disease
  • increase sex drive and fertility

Continuous sleep deprivation causes a sleep debt. Ferengi hate being in debt, so does your body. Don’t starve yourself of sleep or you’ll wind up in the Vault of Eternal Destitution!

Rule #104: Faith moves mountains…of inventory

That’s pretty funny, but not entirely inaccurate. If you have established credibility with your customers, their faith in you can indeed move mountains of inventory. People think salesmanship is about pressure and sleazy brain games. Not so. Identifying your ideal customer and providing them with an irresistible offer is what salesmanship is really about.

Rule #105: Not yet cited in Star Trek episodes, movies or novels

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail

Ben Franklin coined that little gem. It couldn’t be more true. Particularly in the case of my next video in the training course. I need to get my dominos lined up and ready to tip. A false start and the whole blasted thing is just ruined.

As much as it seems like I’m procrastinating and trying to be a perfectionist, I’m actually compiling needed details in order to get the one-take-only recording done without it turning into a disaster.
