Easter Funny

Between April Fool’s Day and Easter, there’s a lot to enjoy this week.

April Fools

Here cometh April again, and as far as I can see the world hath more fools in it than ever. ~Charles Lamb

There’s a kind of bittersweet schadenfreude involved in watching the current administration exercising every manner of buffoonery. What makes it bittersweet is that they’re rapidly running our country into the ground with their shocking ineptitude.

Fear not!

Easter is a season for coming back to life. Despite what popular culture would have you believe, there is literally only so far we can possibly permit the idiots inside the beltway to go. Eventually, the threshold of absurdity will be crossed (perhaps twice over) and somebody will figure out how to make the Constitution matter again.

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. ~Leo Buscaglia

Here It Comes

Here Comes Peter Cottontail – 1971 Easter Special

Yes, friends, it’s here for your viewing enjoyment. Rankin & Bass made my childhood genuinely enjoyable. Christmas got a lot of play but Peter Cottontail not only covered Easter in a fun way but followed the boastful bunny through the rest of the calendar as he tried his best to fix the mistake he made. It has a great message, a fun romp and a bunch of silly songs. Vincent Price voicing the naughty rabbit, January Q Irontail was absolutely perfect as a counterpoint to Casey Kasem’s Peter Cottontail. Casey was already familiar to most kids as the voice of Shaggy from Scooby Doo, so there was a built-in appeal to the character.

On the flipside of things, I always enjoy the song below for some grumpy catharsis. It’s a serious dig at celebrity worship, whether that be Hollywood types, sports stars, talking heads on TV, politicians or even just the popular kids at school. The premise is the same across the spectrum. I’ve linked a version with the lyrics so you can see what she has to say on the matter while you get a raging case of the feelz.

Hard & Soul

Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one. ~Stella Adler

Despite the frivolous jolliness of April Fool’s Day and the prospect of impending Easter candy, this week has genuinely sucked ass.

Point blank. It just sucked.

That being said, I can be happy that it’s fucking over. There are some things to look forward to this weekend besides the Easter candy.

We’re helping the kids move stuff and they’ll be (probably) staying over to enjoy Easter dinner tomorrow.

I’ve got some me stuff to take care of as well. After a long week of job stuff, it’s good to even have me stuff to fall back on.

It’s a small thing but everything you can count as a blessing is something that reinforces the fact that you have a soul and you’re not just a faceless cog in a big machine.

I’ve been trying to do some more planning in order to keep the story on track. Unfortunately, it runs completely counter to my usual style of writing. I’m getting absolutely nowhere. I’ve managed to tease a few waypoints in the story but I’m not entirely satisfied that I can use them to get where I’m going.

That’s a bit annoying but I’m sure I can figure out how to tease out a clear path from where I started to where I want to be at the end of the story.

Despite the cold snap and the odd ❄️ flake, Spring is here to stay (at least until Summer)
