Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know Valentine’s π Day was yesterday, but it’s hard enough coming up with blog topics without skipping big heart-shaped gimmes. Besides, it means we’re one big step closer to Shamrock βοΈ Shake season…

Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. ~Emily Bronte
I’d like to think that Kelly feels this way, but I certainly do about her.
Certainly, the day after Valentine’s π Day is the perfect time for me to gush (yet again) about how utterly spectacular my wife is and how glad I am that she is in my life.
I’m keeping this post short because I’m incredibly busy so I’ll nutshell it for you by saying:
My wife is utterly spectacular
And I’m glad she’s in my life!
Yes, I understand that’s more likely to put you into diabetic shock than eating all the discount Valentine’s candy that’s available today for breakfast, but I’m unashamedly in love with Kelly and I always will be because she is everything to me.

As previously mentioned, we’re another step closer to the next season so I thought I’d share some noisy tropical birds with you.
That is all.
Go Beyond
The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible. ~Arthur C. Clarke
That’s the great thing about speculative fiction.
Plain old fiction is an exercise in exploring the what ifs of every day reality.
What if an obsessive cop in Revolutionary France hounded some guy for stealing a loaf of bread?
What if a fastidious Belgian detective tried to solve a murder on a train stuck in the Balkans?
What if the nanny developed feelings for her boss, not knowing he had his insane wife imprisoned in another wing of the house?
These are all plausible, everyday scenarios. They are fascinating just the same.
What happens when you dial up the impossibility factor?
Well, for one thing, you’re starting to attract my attention. If I wanted grounded, realistic stories, I’d watch local news or crash somebody’s picnic.
All things being equal, I’d rather have something with spaceships or witches or both (especially if they look like Julie Newmar, rraow).
That’s just what I’m most interested in. I don’t mind a story being “believable” but it doesn’t have to be mundane. You can still explore the human condition or examine themes of justice vs vengeance while having photon blasters, magic swords or comic book super powers.
As I’ve said before, I think the Netflix Daredevil series did this incredibly well.
Everything is pretty close to being “normal” except for the blind guy who can hear heartbeats halfway across town, smell cologne from three stories up or accelerate his healing through meditation after getting pounded by thugs and gangsters night after night.
The series acknowledged that the characters live in a world where the Avengers have wrecked a lot of downtown NYC fighting off an alien invasion, but Daredevil is all about a guy protecting the normal people in his neighborhood from the normal criminals who prey on them.
I also prefer stories that are as made-up in their milieux as they are in their dramatic premises. Sure, anyone can identify with a quest for vengeance on the people who killed your parents, but a quest to destroy the magic ring that holds the essence of Satan’s sidekick is a lot more compelling to me and so many other sci-fi/fantasy fans.
But, hey, that’s me. That’s why I read what I read, watch what I watch and write what I write.
When it comes to reality and everyday life, Kelly is my inspiration. Who could ask for anything more?
That’s all there is. π There isn’t anymore. π See you Saturday.
