Last Day of Winter

Spring begins tomorrow night but today is the last full day of Winter and we’ve got some errands to run.

Two Week Quarantino

To attempt to minimize the spread of COVID19, our Governor has ordered (actually, it’s a strong suggestion since he doesn’t really have the authority) the closure of “non-essential” businesses. It’s a sensible approach even though it’s egregiously overreaching.

The errands I mentioned are associated with essential businesses so (even though I don’t actually like going out even when there is not a pandemic being overreacted to) it’s a legitimate trip.

We’ll have to make the most of it because I don’t plan to go out for the next couple of days unless something else absolutely necessary comes up.

Corned Beef & Cabbage

☘️ Why do we eat corned beef on St. Patrick’s Day? 🇮🇪

That’s as good an explanation as any.

Whatever the reason, it is a ☘️ St Patrick’s Day ☘️ tradition that we happily adhere to. Last night’s corned beef brisket was particularly tasty.

I put it in the crock pot with the carrots, onions, potatoes and beef bullion (a lot of recipes call for beer, but we didn’t have any) around 8 in the morning. It simmered happily away until 4 in the afternoon when I put the cabbage in and let it cook down for another hour.

Per the children’s request, green mashed potatoes accompanied the meal. Per the wife’s request, green jello and whipped cream followed the meal.

We may be pseudo-quarantined but at least we can have some fun.

Words

Words, like nature, half reveal and half conceal the soul within. ~Alfred Lord Tennyson

The words you choose in fiction reveal a lot about who you are. To Tennyson’s point, they also tend to conceal because you have full control of your imaginary world.

Unfortunately, I’ve been way too short of words lately. My head is pounding on a daily basis. It’s really unpleasant and makes it difficult to focus on much of anything.

I have been doing some ancillary preparations but writing is something I need to find a way to get back online. Even as I write this little post, my head is just swimming. It’s really horrible.

I’m fairly certain it’s not the dreaded virus but the best thing to do is check the Center for Disease Control’s COVID19 page to be certain. The symptoms don’t match what I’m experiencing. Good. I just need a nap. Nothing new there.

Just the same, I have outlined an 8 book series for the Sentinels that features 5 POV characters each and progresses through the Hero’s Journey for the characters in each book as well as over the course of the series for the principal protagonists and the principal antagonists.

That’s a busy hump day of essential errands done and over with. I hope you’re enjoying your period of social distancing as much as we are.
