Light At The End Of The Tunnel

I’m coming up to the end of my current project and I’m looking forward to doing something else. I’ve never been a fan of being one-track. I like variety and going full bore on a single project may accelerate the completion of it but it makes me absolutely nuts!

Courage

Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It’s courage that counts. ~John Wooden

I’ve accomplished a number of things in my life. Regrettably, not a single one of them came with royalties. Once I was done, I was done. It was done. I got paid. Once and done. That is all. Nevertheless, some things must be endured and completed. Unlike prior forms of work, this one has the potential to be recurring. Once it takes root, it will generate revenue on its own.

Orienteering

Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship. ~Omar N. Bradley

People in information marketing have a tendency to get distracted and waylaid by every passing notion. The problem is that this is by design. People know that because the results aren’t immediate like they are at a job, they’re going to keep looking for a quick fix. People send emails and post ads for the quick fix, but it never is. This ties to the quote just above. Set your course based on things that are “fixed“.

In fairness, the stars are not fixed. The planet spins at a thousand miles per hour while whirling around the sun at tens of thousands of miles per hour. The sun spins around the center of the galaxy at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour. The stars we see at night do likewise. The thing is it’s a matter of perspective. When you look at a car driving by, it seems rather fast because it’s right next to you at a speed in the double digits of miles per hour. On the other hand, you look up in the sky at an airplane that’s traveling in the triple digits of miles per hour seems to be virtually sitting still because the perspective is thousands of miles of sky as compared to the streets directly next to you. That’s called parallax. So, because of our perspective, the stars seem to be standing quite still.

All of these marketers who try to sell you the latest, greatest thing are the cars rushing past you honking their horns. They promise a lot and deliver nearly nothing. Stop buying and start selling. The most important thing you can do is to find a problem that needs solving, package the solution in a way that most people can access it and make people aware that there’s a solution available. When you sell what’s needed instead of some ridiculous flash in the pan, you’ll be able to ignore the drive-by noisemakers.

Getting There

Either I will find a way, or I will make one. ~Philip Sidney

I’m dedicated to finding a way that does not involve once and done income. Jobs are great and easy (sort of), but very few of those have recurring income involved. Trading easy paydays for temporary income may be the norm but in the broad view, they actually suck. They suck time. They suck because they stop paying once you stop going. They suck because you have to put up with all kinds of random people with all kinds of random problems. I’ve had many pleasant colleagues over the years, but the few rotten ones do tend to sort of spoil the barrel.

Gotta keep this short. I hope you’re getting through your projects as well.
