More Glop!

I haven’t been feeling too well recently but at least I’ll have a good book to curl up with while the head and body aches make my summer even less pleasant.

I’ve Been Waiting!

My friend, Enola, has been working feverishly to finish the second book in her Mentalists Series and now (just in time for my 🎁 birthday 🎂), she has finally completed The Forgotten: The Mentalists Series: Book Two!

I have to commend her timing since this is turning out to be a lovely birthday present. My copy should be arriving today.

Like George R. R. Martin, I’m going to go back and read the first book again so I can get the proper context for the new book. Unlike George R. R. Martin, I’m not going to have to wait five or six years for the next installment. Neither will I have to worry about her going all Hollywood on us and letting the screenwriters at HBO finish the story for her.

If you like medieval fantasy novels, fairy tales or even just a well-told story, I strongly recommend you pick up a copy of both books. The first story was cleverly written and turns a number of fantasy tropes on their heads while providing a compelling storyline that has kept me waiting for this new book to be released.

😝 If you’re wondering what Glop is, you’ll just have to read the books. 😝

Sleeping Better

Tired minds don’t plan well. Sleep first, plan later. ~Walter Reisch

I have to say that I have been sleeping better since I got the CPAP machine but every once in a while, I wake up with a killer headache. I was also having a heck of a time getting into a comfortable sleep position last night. Sometimes the forced air is difficult to deal with. In most cases, it’s actually kind of soothing.

Shatner is the new spokesman for the SoClean CPAP machine cleaning device!

Unfortunately, the costochondritis has continued to rear its ugly head at unexpected intervals. I can understand if I’m bending or trying to lift things in awkward positions but for God’s sake, I’m just sitting there and it feels like somebody’s taking a chisel to my chest!

Kelly and I took a walk around the park the other day and it felt like somebody was body-checking me with a baseball bat. I’ve got an appointment to follow up with the doctor on Friday but apparently, this is just a thing that takes its own very long time to resolve.

Since I’m dealing with all of the aches and pains and so forth, I’m also asking the doctor for a hearing test. I’m pretty sure I need a hearing aid. My hearing has been declining for some time and it’s getting to the point where I can’t hear half of what Kelly is saying to me. But then again…

True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment. ~William Penn

It would be very naughty of me to simply leave that there but there is truth in that quote.

On the other hand, my wife’s voice is actually one of the great joys in my life so I wouldn’t want to have to live without it if it can be helped.

Turmoil

Stress and worry, they solve nothing. What they do is block creativity. You are not even able to think about the solutions. Every problem has a solution. ~Susan L. Taylor

I’ve got to admit, there’s nothing more stifling to the creative flow than stress and worry. I was stymied for years. I wanted to do something creative but there were always bills that were overdue and errands to run and work to commute to and from in horrific weather and traffic conditions.

Stress and Worry

Add to that the fact that I was literally suffocating in my “sleep” and it’s a wonder I got anything done. It’s been a long road back and I’m not entirely there yet but at least there is a road back. It’s a bumpy road, to be sure. Even as I type this, I’ve got a headache that you can’t even believe. Feels like somebody is holding an ax handle against the back of my head. Absolutely awful.

In spite of all that, I have gotten as far as Chapter Ten. I’m not sure about that one, though. Deke needs to do something useful by the end of the chapter or it’s just a bunch of words that don’t really move the story forward. Oh well, that’s what editing is for.

That’s my rant for the day. Hope you’re having a better day than I am. At least I have Enola’s book to look forward to. 👍
