National Cinnamon Day 2023
Among other things, today is National Cinnamon Day. As one of the major ingredients in Pumpkin 🎃 Spice, I find it a flavorful introduction to another glorious -Ber month.
Perspective
We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. ~Anaïs Nin
New month, but same old same old. I’m still slammed, and it’s getting a bit old.
We endured a nail-biter waiting for funds to replenish, but we’re good again for the moment.
This is not the jolly 🍂Autumn🍂 mindset I’d like to have, but it is where I am at the moment.
Whatcha gonna do? Hopefully, the belt won’t need to be as tight in November.
Getting Spicy
The Mysterious History of Cinnamon
Cinnamon is not only a major ingredient in Pumpkin 🎃 Spice, but it is also a splendid Christmas flavor and potentially helpful for diabetes and other illnesses.
Despite the fact that it was something only 1%ers could afford as recently as a few hundred years ago, we can now get it on demand at the dollar store.
If you checked out the video above, you’ll know that the Fall of Constantinople was not only demoralizing to the West but also resulted in an abrupt cessation of Asian trade.
Anybody who has gotten used to something and has to start going without will be willing to take extraordinary measures to get it back.
Not only did they come up with a circuitous route of supply, but they also found new and amazing produce. Cocoa, coffee, tobacco, potatoes, tomatoes were now available.
There’s a lesson in this. When difficulty and deprivation raise their ugly heads, applied creativity will restore and expand on what has been taken away.
By taking a step or two aside, you can usually rebuild and improve. As I frequently say at work, there’s always a workaround.
Tried Cinnamon Before? Here is the Real Story About Cinnamon!
Mellow
Mellow doesn’t always make for a good story, but it makes for a good life. ~Anne Hathaway
Not sure that’s true anymore. It’s widely held that you need to crank up the drama in order for your story to be good.
There are genres like cozy mysteries, Hallmark Christmas movies and other mellow categories.
The stakes are usually not life and death. The language is not harsh. The pace is not heart-pounding. It’s just nice.
There’s actually nothing wrong with nice. Nice is a pleasant diversion in a shelf full of heavy drama and thunderous action.
I like to think that my Holiday Season Serial Romances fall into the overall mellow category. Granted, A Misfit Christmas featured a homicidal monster, but the bulk of the story was still in the overall category of mellow fiction. A gentle tug on the heartstrings can create as good a ride as a bombastic adrenaline-fest, IMHO.
That’s it for today. It’s Wednesday. It’s November. It’s 🍂Autumn🍂. I’m completely slammed and am looking forward to being done with my current situation.
