National Hot Dog Day 2025

Let’s be honest, every day is Hot Dog Day. Even so, today is National Hot Dog Day. Fire up that grill, y’all…

A Proper 🌭

A proper hot dog is a thing of beauty. But it must be grilled—not boiled—and never, ever microwaved. ~Martha Stewart

Yes, on a stick over fire, cut longwise and griddled, baked in a crescent roll cocoon…

You really can’t go wrong with a hot dog, a wiener (yes, that has a sophomorically-assigned sexual connotation but it just means it’s from Vienna, Austria), a frankfurter (not sexually tinged, but more ostentatious while meaning simply that it’s from Frankfurt, Germany), a glorious little sizzling tube of mystery meat.

It’s simple, but can be as exotic as you choose to make it.

Me? I enjoy dill pickle relish and a thin stripe of ketchup.

If I’m feeling like piling it up and the toppings are handy, I don’t mind a spread of caramelized onion bits, sloppy joe and a hefty stripe of spray cheese.

Most times? I just nuke a few on a plate with or without sides.

Sorry, Martha, but I’ll make my dogs hot however I bloody well please.

National 🌭 Tour

Every Style of Hot Dog We Could Find Across the US

Some of these variations look really enticing. I wouldn’t mind taking Kelly on a coast to coast tour to sample some of these.

That being said, we’d like to take a coast to coast tour to see some of the country’s most astonishing sites.

Certainly, there’s the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Carlsbad Caverns and other natural wonders, but we’d really love to see the world’s largest ball of twine and the SPAM Museum while we’re at it.

For me, I’d like to hit Bronner’s in Michigan and several other Christmas-centric locales. I think Kelly would probably lose her mind because Bronner’s is like a Christmas Mouse with its own ZIP Code.

Yes, we’re weird like that, but we’d also love to see the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Ohio, the Baseball Hall of Fame in New York and we might even have to jump the border to find the Hockey Hall of Fame in Ontario.

There’s so much cool stuff to see and so many great places to get a hot dog while you’re seeing them.

🔥🔥 Waiting 🌭🌭

The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook—or the hot dogs. ~Julia Child

Haha, love a chef with a sense of humor.

I’ve been having a hard time not obsessing over the news lately.

It’s the browser tab trap. Just going to watch these few things and then it’s hours.

Even so, if I try skipping over, I’m just as distracted by the fact that I’m deliberately not looking at my usual news shows.

It’s an unfortunate mixed bag of distraction.

Be that as it may, I did actually finish Chapter 61 recently and I’m pretty excited to keep going.

It’s not like I have any lack of ideas. I know exactly where I need to go with this story.

I just don’t know when I’ll have the focus to get there…

That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for a chilly drink 🍹
