The π Aussies can have their Vegemite and the π Brits can have their Marmite, but this is π America’s distinct delicacy. It’s National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, and I’m spreading it on thick today. π½οΈ
Creamy or Crunchy?
I love dark chocolate. I’m also a peanut butter and chocolate fanatic. That’s pretty much the greatest invention of the last century ~Tom Lenk
Definitely. Chocolate and peanut butter make an awesome combo.
While I can attest to the splendid flavor personally, I was bombarded with the news when I was growing up.
I mean, who can argue with Ralph Malph? He knows his snacks.

For me, it’s more than just a snack. Peanut butter is delicious and life-sustaining.
Don’t have time for dinner or lunch? Big ol’ serving spoon of all natural peanut butter and you’re good to go.
I understand that those of other countries, who didn’t grow up with this delightful treat, turn their noses up at it.
That’s okay. Means there’s that much more left for me. ππ½π₯

Peanut Butter | How It’s Made
Seriously, though. Peanut butter is absolutely delicious with so many things.
You can dip apple slices in it, top your ice cream, on bread with jelly and so much more.
Peanut butter makes for great fudge, awesome cookies and even on noodles with Thai food.
I used to eat the crazy sugar pudding that passes for peanut butter, but I’ve come to love the natural kind.
I also love dry roasted, unsalted peanuts. I can eat them by the jarful.
Strangely enough, I discovered something interesting and surprising back when I was a vegetarian.
I was actually craving liverwurst, so I mixed yellow mustard into some peanut butter. If you get the proportions just right, you wind up with vegetarian liverwurst!
Now that you’ve seen it in your mind’s eye, you can’t unsee it. Don’t say I never give you anything. π

Trouble
The trouble with remakes is that people fall in love with the original. It’s like peanut butter. If you try to change the taste of peanut butter, you’re in trouble. ~Sylvester Stallone
That is true to a certain extent. People hate what Disney has done to a lot of modern Star Wars, Indiana Jones and fairytale princess retelling projects.
“Telling classic stories for a modern audience” is often seen as evidence that you’re just wrecking beloved age-old tales with modern pandering.
The exception to this rule is retooling public domain works such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Why is this an exception? Because it’s clear that the artist reworking public domain material is making an entirely new story.
That’s all we’re asking here, folks. Do something new. Do something unique. Do something you.
Even if you’re riffing on a public domain classic, add a bit of your own soul and interest to make it worth someone’s reading or watching.
This is reflected in what I’m attempting to do with The Sentinels.
Given that it’s a celebration of what I love about comic books and other superhero media, it’s guaranteed to have themes you’ve seen from DC, Marvel, indies, TV shows and movies.
It’s very much the point of the exercise.
I’m standing on the shoulders of both giants and dwarves. In almost nine decades of comic book storytelling, some stuff has hit and some stuff has flopped.
The geniuses of the industry have thrown quite a lot of spaghetti against the wall in order to keep a variety of magazines published in volume on time. The results were naturally mixed.
I have an advantage over the giants of the industry. They had a schedule to keep with several titles. I have the luxury to plan out my storyline and publish when I’m ready.
I think the final result will be something that people will enjoy, appreciate and maybe even celebrate. I guess we’ll see.
That’s all for today. We’ll see you back on π Wednesday π for a brand new liturgical season and some leftover π© fastnachts. What are you giving up for Lent?
