National Shrimp Day 2025
Rather appropriate for a sunny Saturday, today is National Shrimp Day and I have some waiting in the fridge for me. Bring the garlic! Bring the butter! Time to shrimp it up, y’all…
π¦ Big Shrimp? π€
I love big shrimp, like Japanese botan shrimp and the meaty ones from Santa Barbara, Calif. In classic Japanese cooking, shrimp like these would be dropped into a broth or boiled as served with sushi. But I think boiling dilutes their great flavor, and they are better when stir-fried. ~Nobu Matsuhisa
Well, Chef Nobu, from your lips to God’s ears. Stir-fried shrimp is savory and delicious.
I’ve had a LONG HARD week.
So, I had a LONG RELAXING sleep.
And now I’m going to write a short and zippy post about some seafood with smallness implied in the name.
Bring on the Shrimp!

π¦ Shrimp Scampi Without The Restaurant? π€
Red Lobster’s Shrimp Scampi Make It Better at Home | Copycat Recipe
I have long been a fan of people who can approximate or even duplicate popular foodstuffs.
Whether it’s a restaurant entrΓ©e like this one or Cracker Barrel’s iconic Hashbrown Casserole or even a passable recipe for Faux-reos, I love being able to DIY (sometimes).
I hedge that with a sometimes because most times it’s just easier and less time-consuming to just go get the real thing and let somebody else clean their kitchen up after.
Naturally, I’d need some sugar-free faux-reos if I was going to (ask Kelly to) undergo all the effort to DIY them. There are some commercially available, so (again) it’s often easier to just go buy some.
All that being said, Kelly was kind enough to pick me up a parcel of shrimp the other day so that I can genuinely enjoy some lovely fresh shrimp on National Shrimp Day. Thank you, dear!
π¦ Still A Small Shrimp π€
I’m still a small shrimp, not a dragon. ~Barry Lam
Since I had such a LONG HARD week, I had basically NO TIME OR ENERGY to finish up Chapter 57 of The Sentinels: New Blood.
As a writer with a day job, these things happen.
It is now the weekend and I have both time and energy to attend to other needful things: shrimp, laundry, stairs, Chapter 57 and beyond.
That being the case, I’m going to finish today’s post. Nothing is ever perfect. Sometimes you have more things to do than time to do them.
That’s okay.
It’s the weekend, and it’s time to chill.
I’m going to go stir me up some scrumptious shrimp and get back to the writing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ve got to deal with those worn-ass stairs, too. You can only let things go for so long…
That’s all for today. See you back on Wednesday for some iconic dancing…
