National Toasted Marshmallow Day 2025
Wrapping up August with National Toasted Marshmallow Day, friends! Whether you use a fallen twig from the woods or a multi-tined metal toasting fork from Amazon, sitting around the fire with family, friends and a bag of marshmallows is something we can keep enjoying well into the –ber months.
π₯βͺ Gooey π€π₯
People get antsy. They want to put it right into the fire, light it on fire and then it charcoals⦠You got to keep it nice and high so it gets gooey inside.

Good things come to those who wait.
As Cake Boss Buddy Valastro tells us, there’s a technique to getting the perfect toasted marshmallow.
This can apply to so many things in life.
Patience can be its own reward, but it’s certainly a vital ingredient in anything you want done correctly.
As for me, I’ve simply been waiting patiently for π Summer π₯ to end.
Now that we’re at the weekend that ends π Social Summer π₯, I can breathe a little easier.
I mentioned on Wednesday that various vendors have declared it to be Pumpkin π Spice season.
As I also mentioned, that’s just a few days early for me.
No matter how much I want it to be Pumpkin π Spice season, having Pumpkin π Spice before Labor Day is akin to listening to πΌ Christmas music πΆ before π¦ Thanksgiving Day π₯§.
Either way, we’re comfortably nestled into ππ§Έβ Cozy Season βΊοΈπ₯§π until at least π St. Patrick’s Day βοΈ.
For now, my patience is rewarded with more reasonable temperatures through the end of the year.
Cool days and chilly sleeping-weather nights? ππ»π€π΄ Bring it on.
π₯βͺ Light ’em up! π€π₯
The surprisingly long history of roasting marshmallows
I have roasted many a marshmallow in quite a variety of fires.
Going to be honest. As much as “perfect marshmallow” aficionados decry the flaming marshmallow technique, I have no problem with blackened marshmallows.
I find that the black scales tend to flake off and you’re guaranteed a melted middle when you set the sucker on fire.
What you’re not guaranteed is whether it will remain on the stick.
A blackened marshmallow is truly gooey, almost liquid.
As such, it’s likely to slither off your stick into the fire, so do be careful about it.
If you can get it just gooey enough inside, this makes it perfect for smooshing between graham crackers and a chocolate bar.
Whether you like your marshmallows straight from the stick or clamped merrily in a s’more, we find ourselves at the perfect time of year for it.
Campfires? All good until at least π¦ ThanksgivingΒ π₯§.
Depending on how rustic you run, you can keep on toasting marshmallows until it starts snowing.
After that, you can either do it on your deck with a chiminea or inside at your fireplace right on through to π SpringtimeΒ π·.
How to roast the perfect marshmallow
π₯βͺ Blow Torch π€π₯
Pass the blow torch around the dinner party and let everyone torch their ownΒ β¦ You get that toasty sβmores flavor from when you were a kid. Itβs awesome. ~ZoΓ« FranΓ§ois
Okay, I’m throwing a big ol’ time out on this one. π π»ββοΈ
There will be no passing of torches in the π‘ Knowlan household, thank you very much.
I’m sure it brings a wonderfully toasted marshmallow, but seriously. No. Just no.
The kind of torch passing I can get behind is passing the torch from side character to main character in my Holiday Season Serial Romances.
As Ivy went from a main character in Holly and Ivy to a supporting character in Merry π Bells, Gary Light and his daughter move from third party mentions in The Lights of Pine Hollow to core cast for π‘ππ Goodness & Lights πππ‘.
I’m nearly in a position to start writing that, but I have some last minute items to resolve first.
Just because it’s ππ§Έβ Cozy Season βΊοΈπ₯§π doesn’t mean I’m not busy. It just makes it more bearable trying to keep up.
That’s all for today. See you back in September for π³…
