November Chill

🎼Vacation, all I ever wanted 🎶 Vacation, had to get away 🎶

And get away I shall, far, far away…

Research is what I’m doing when I don’t know what I’m doing. ~Wernher von Braun

I’m setting aside the daily madness of data conversion and software for a week or so, thank God!

It’s time to kick back and enjoy some holiday season happiness for a while. We’ll enjoy some day trips and time with the extended family over the next week or so.

Whatever time I can spare will be dedicated to catching up on Merry 🔔 Bells and getting a bunch of doggie bandanas made. Emmeline got me a pattern for bandanas that you put on dog collars.

I made Halloween ones for Rose, Spencer and Max already and I’ve got material for Thanksgiving and with pumpkins and sunflowers.

Vacation!

The Go-Go’s – Vacation

It’s all well and good running full tilt at every little thing that needs doing, but sometimes you’ve got to stop and take a rest.

That time is now.

I’m allowed and I’m bloody well going to enjoy enjoying it.

It’s going to be a sweet treat to take some uninterrupted time kicking back with Kelly and just enjoying life for a while.

It’s been a while since I mentioned The Sentinels in this space.

Actually, this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance main characters are both Sentinels fans and have spent a bit too much time carrying on about the interest they have in common.

That’s the thing about superfans, they tend to geek out about a shared interest.

That’s fine characterization, but it doesn’t provide the kind of dramatic tension I have previously mentioned.

Certainly, a superhero epic like the series I’m working on is rife with dramatic tension.

Naturally, there are bombastic fight scenes but there’s in-group tension, political intrigue, crimes to solve and lots of things available to provide intrinsic tension, drama and items of interest.

In a light-hearted holiday RomCom, there are some tropes that lend themselves to interest-generating conflict. Fake relationships that blossom into real ones, enemies to friends, opposites attract and other romance tropes come with dramatic tension baked in.

What I’ve got with Meredith and Toby is less about dramatic tension and more about dueling insecurities. They are mutually attracted and they are open to companionship, even if they don’t start off actively seeking it.

What they do have is an almost crippling level of self-doubt. This can lead to some misunderstandings that would lead to dramatic tension. Sending mixed signals can lead to misunderstandings that might result in hurt feelings.

Hmm, that’s got some potential. Guess we’ll see if that helps me get back on track.

That’s all for now. I hope you’re having a lovely November weekend. It’s nearly 🎄 Christmas 🎅! Hope you’ve got your 🛍️ shopping 🛍️ taken care of.
