Off To Business In Jersey

Today is a most unusual day. I have not had a need to commute for work in quite some time. Should be fun.

Interaxions

Israel is slightly smaller than New Jersey. Moses in effect led the tribes of Israel out of the District of Columbia, parted Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis, and wandered for forty years in Delaware. ~P. J. O’Rourke

Datacor’s annual conference is taking place this week. For personal reasons, I can only attend tomorrow.

Even so, that will be enough. Next year, God willing, I will be able to stay over the entire week.

It’s a unique learning opportunity, a chance to meet my colleagues in person and to shake hands with clients whom I’ve only met on the video screen thus far.

As for the rest of my week, I’ve had a rare opportunity to do some catch up work.

This is not to say I’ve caught up, only that I’ve had more time than usual to concentrate on a few outstanding tasks.

In that concentration, I’ve had a chance to make some positive changes in my conversion software.

Probably helps that I’ve finally gotten a new CPAP machine and am actually sleeping soundly again.

In any case, it’s been an uncommonly quiet week for me and I’ve been taking full advantage of the opportunity.

The conference is at The Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, NJ.

The Westin Governor Morris looks lovely and the schedule of events will keep me hopping.

It’s a bit of a hike, but I’ll manage.

This Work / That Work

I quit comics in 1988 and trained as a bus driver. I used to drive those big Greyhound coaches out of New York Port Authority and down to Princeton, New Jersey. It was, hands down, the best job I ever had, and I profoundly regret having left it. I kept that job the entire time I was on staff at DC Comics in the ’90s. ~Christopher Priest

So, I’ve been so busy trying to catch up at work that I’ve had neither time nor energy to get back to The Sentinels.

Something I have done is to order a couple printed copies of Holly and Ivy. I’ll be taking 2 copies to the bookstore and keeping a copy for the shelf.

In the meantime, I’m focusing on the day job until I get caught up on stuff.

In fairness, I can’t really be creative when I’ve got overdue work weighing on me.

Hopefully, with the remaining quiet time on Thursday and Friday, I’ll be able to clear out enough work-related guilt to let the creative juices flow freely over the weekend.

I guess we’ll see.

That’s all for today. I’ll be at Interaxions with my colleagues. I’ll let you know how it went on Saturday.
