Summer’s a’Waning
Only 47 days til Autumn!!! Yay!!! I’m sure there will be another heatwave to endure before it’s over but it is drawing to a close.
Simmering Down
It’s a bit of a slow week for me as far as doctor appointments go. I’ll be seeing my GP on Friday to follow up on my last visit and some of the test results and specialist findings.
I’m still having a lot of difficulty breathing and it hurts egregiously to do the slightest bit of bending or exertion, so that’s definitely a topic for Friday.
Apart from that, it’s just work, work, work…
I’ve been making a lot of progress in standardizing and configuring my sites’ plugins, dashboard widgets and other techobabbly items.
I got the HostGator tech support to add SSL certificates and update my version of PHP. I used to be a programmer and I could probably have figured it out with the articles provided but it was quicker and easier to let them do it for me so I could get back to my actual work.
I had a pretty hefty stack of tasks to attend to yesterday and I’m proud to say I actually ripped through all of them without postponing anything (for once).
Now that I can actually breathe while I’m sleeping, my brain is getting the oxygen AND the rest it needs in order to get me back to some semblance of how I used to be.
Before the burnout, I was balancing about a dozen complicated IT projects in my brain with no problem. My supervisor could come to me in the middle of working on one project and ask me to shift gears and jump on another project. Not only could I turn on a dime, as requested, but my capacity to bring the alternate project to front-of-mind awareness immediately made me invaluable and it really boosted my self-esteem.
Then the burnout occurred. All 12 steps. I spent a couple of years rebooting. The sleep apnea made the reboot process all the more difficult. For years, I was totally zombified.
It was actually horrible because I could tell how degraded my mental functioning was but I didn’t seem to be able to do anything about it.
Ever since I got my CPAP, I’m waking up rested and bursting with ideas.
I can actually rip through a stack of tasks and add more to the list as I go.
I’m not back to full processing power but I’m getting there.
National Lighthouse Day
Believe it or not, there’s actually a National Lighthouse Day.
My family will be going to the Outer Banks (again) this year around Halloween. My In-Laws are just bonkers about lighthouses. There are lighthouses that they haven’t seen in places they haven’t been but they really enjoy going to the Outer Banks, so that’s where they’re going.
I, however, am not.
Just as well.
I’m not particularly interested in lighthouses or going places we’ve already been a bunch of times. I’ll have the place to myself (and the fuzzies) for a stretch. Who knows? Maybe I’ll have recovered enough by then to do something other than breathe (with difficulty).
One certainly hopes, but it remains to be seen.
First Thoughts, First Thing
When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love … ~Marcus Aurelius
I have, indeed, had the opportunity to think on my good fortune each morning.
I have been recovering, slowly but surely and that’s a blessing.
Is it taking a long time? Yes!
Does it take as long as it takes? Unfortunately, yes!
Even so, slowing down to recover and get each and every ailment attended to has been both a burden and a blessing.
Dealing with the mixed bag of circumstances has been challenging but not insurmountable.
Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better. ~Emile Coue
That’s it for now. I hope you’re enjoying the middle of your week.
