Summer’s Heating Up
It’s the peak of the week and we’re coasting down toward the weekend but we’re ramping up into the Summer heat.
Heat Exhaustion
There’s nothing I hate more than the heat. Back in Basic Training, I encountered a case of heat exhaustion because of the conditions. Southern Texas in the middle of July is no place or time to be running around in dark green uniforms.
Despite the time I was there, I never acclimated to the desert heat. On the other hand, within a week or two of arriving at Minot, my blood thickened up and I was ready for a lifetime in the Great White North.
That’s the great thing about Pennsylvania. We may have miserable, muggy Summers but we have beautiful, colorful Autumns and crisp, snowy Winters. Can’t have one without the other no matter how much I’d like to bypass the Summer altogether.
In any case, the heat makes me miserable and simply enhances the unpleasantness associated with the ankle that is quasi-healed and the costochondritis that NEVER GOES AWAY! Honestly, I was making dinner and some onion cuttings got on the floor. I bent over to pick them up to throw them in the trash.
Big Mistake!
Oh. My. God!
I’m not set for bending right now. That thoroughly is not in my wheelhouse. Can’t get cool and can’t bend. Can’t wait for Summer to end!

Bob Ross – One Hour Special
I may not like Summer but Bob does. Crank up your AC and enjoy the hour-long presentation on how to paint a lovely summertime landscape in his own, unique style.
Make sure you keep that AC cranked because this weekend is looking to be a real doozy. The temperatures are going to approach 100°F and the “RealFeel” temperatures are going to skyrocket right past that dreadful threshold.
You’re going to want to stock up on chilled foods or maybe some recipes from the hotter corners of the globe. Indian, Thai or various Latin American staples feature spices that help you to stay cool by being intolerably hot (like the weather).
Falling Off The Wagon
Falling is easy
It’s getting back up that becomes the problem, becomes the problem
And if you believe you can find a way out
Then you’ve solved the problem, you’ve solved your problem
~Falling (Staind)
For various reasons, I haven’t been writing recently. I need to fix this but my brain has been firing in various directions. Now that I’m actually (forcibly) breathing while I sleep, my brain is less zombified. The ideas I’ve had in the past have begun springing to the forefront and I want to act on them while they’re coherent.
This will not only train my brain to handle multiple projects (like I used to, with no effort whatsoever) but it will also reward my pleasure center with immediate positive feedback for having accomplished something (even if it’s a zillion fractional somethings).
Of course, to a normally organized person, this sounds like an absolute horror. People typically want to work on one thing until it’s done. Reality is usually not so accommodating. It certainly isn’t for me. When I worked for the county, I was able to keep at least a dozen projects in mind and turn on a dime when management or departmental clients contacted me. I need to get back to this state so I can get my projects set up and running the right way rather than the muddled, half-mad way I’ve been operating since my stress incident in 2014.
Yes, it was that damaging. Not all scars can be seen. People think I’m a lazy bum but I’m actually just recovering from massive trauma (both physical and mental/emotional). You’ll just have to be patient or you can fuck off and bother someone else.
That’s the flavor of the day. I hope you’re keeping cool. I’ve got some errands to run in my lovely air-conditioned minivan. It’s a lot more comfortable being in it than under it…
