Happy Independence Day

It’s the Fourth of July and time for grilling some burgers. I’m not feeling entirely well, so I’m keeping it short today.

Grilling

People get upset because some of our most important holidays have been somewhat trivialized. Memorial Day is to memorialize our fallen soldiers in wars both foreign and domestic. Independence Day is to memorialize when we took the gigantic step away from Great Britain. Veterans Day is to memorialize our brave service members who are still putting their lives on the line throughout the world. Labor Day is to memorialize our workforce and the incredible things we do every day in production and construction and infrastructure to make this country the phenomenal place it is.

So, what do we do to commemorate all of these momentous events and people and concepts? We have a picnic. We eat. We cook food and eat it.

Okay, fair enough.

Sadly, that’s all it is for a lot of people. Why? Because we’ve diluted patriotism. Pride in your country is passé.

I came up in the days of Reagan. I willingly joined the US Air Force to serve this great country. I was proud then and I’m proud now to be an American.

Sadly, I seem to be in the minority.

Certain groups have conspired to water down civic pride and duty. Talk about who has “privilege” and what’s wrong with this country and who’s been marginalized seems to be the norm instead of the radical margin. Nothing is perfect. There’s always room for improvement. So, don’t wallow in it. Improve it and make America even greater than it already is.

The voices of dissent slap themselves on the back for bringing this country to its knees philosophically. They want to wallow in crap until the country dissolves entirely.

I don’t appreciate that. If you don’t like this country, get out. Stay out.

There are 7 continents and countless islands on this planet. The U.S. of A. covers about 1/3 of one of the 7 continents and a couple of islands way out in the Pacific. The whole rest of the planet is yours to have a repulsive Socialist people’s paradise in.

Go.

Have a great time being oppressed by well-meaning bureaucrats or not-so-well-meaning dictators.

Fireworks

We love to have pyrotechnics displays here in America. We love them for holidays and just to have them. I hope you enjoy the show.

Yes, the 4th of July is a celebration of our Declaration of Independence from Great Britain. It is, however, also a celebration of our Declaration of Independence in and of ourselves. We did not elect to join up with the French or the Spanish or any other world power of the time.

We determined that we were self-sufficient and capable of standing on our own. Despite interference from European powers in the War of 1812 and our Civil War, we have been, are and shall continue to be independent from rule abroad.

There is so much hand-wringing in the media and the Left at large about international opinion. We don’t care. We don’t need to care. We are independent.

Obviously, diplomacy is about mutual benefit and making generally satisfactory agreements but let’s be real about who’s got the upper hand. We have the resources and capacity to shut ourselves up like the Ming Dynasty or pre-Meiji Japan. We really could.

That being said, we don’t want to or need to. Just the same, we also don’t want or need to be brow-beaten by world opinion. America has a right to look to our own interests. If you don’t agree, leave or leave us alone. We don’t need a hassle. We love to be friendly, but we don’t have to be.

I hope you have a wonderful Independence Day.
