Clouds of Pain
Last week was a real doozy. I was experiencing seriously foggy brain and copious amounts of pain. Fortunately, a good night’s sleep seems to have put me back in a reasonable semblance of function. The ankle still hurts, but the brain seems to be back in gear.
Symptoms Out The Wazoo
There was a fair amount of running around last week and having a bum ankle only makes that more arduous. I’ve done my best to stay off of it, but life must be lived.
We enjoyed a trip to Lost River Caverns for my son’s 15th Birthday, but I had to sit out the actual cave tour. Hopefully, when the ankle heals, we can go back and let me have a look at the place for myself.
I had a number of errands to run and things to do regardless of the ankle and in some cases, specifically because of the ankle. Lots of running around coupled with the pain from the ankle led to some seriously foggy brain state. Needless to say, that made me incredibly miserable and sufficiently insufferable to cause my darling wife to comment on it.
To make matters worse, the sudden shift from summer sweltering to almost-fall coolness seems to have given me a cold. So, I’m sniffly and ridiculously sore.
Well, that’s enough to make my beloved wife want to swat me like a bug.
A Good Night’s Sleep
Thank GOD for Nyquil. I slept like a rock instead of a log being sawed. Well, I can’t say that. I was way too asleep to know if I was annoying my wife with my snoring and entirely too comfortable to possibly care.
Does that seem selfish?
TOO BAD! I FEEL A LOT BETTER ANYWAY!!!
In any case, for the first time in days or even weeks, I woke up with a clear head and a notion of things that need doing and ways of doing them. Productivity is back on the menu, folks!
Replacing Pain With Joy
Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain. ~Joseph Campbell
While I give a lot of credit to the Nyquil, the joy of doing something creative just before I went to bed has to have played a part in all this. My son wrote a short story that struck me as something that deserves to be given a Frank Miller-style treatment. The story would look great in graphic novel format. I started laying out the panels last night. I’ll do at least a panel a day until I capture the essence of the story.
There is an atomic bomb of creativity waiting inside of me to reach critical mass. My novel. My extended rights marketplace. My prepper and marketing businesses.
There’s so much to do and I finally have a clear head. This week is going to be great.
So, yeah, I skipped Wednesday and Saturday last week. Last week sucked. This week is going to be as great as last week managed to suck. That’s REALLY great.
