National Punch Day 2023
It’s the last Hump 🐪 Day of 🌞Summer🔥, so let’s sock it to you on National Punch Day.
Empty Nest
To a father growing old nothing is dearer than a daughter. ~Euripides
We’ve come full circle now. After 28 years of continuous occupation by one or more children, we’re on our own again in our cozy little house.
Not entirely, mind you. Rose and Larkin are still here with us, and we have constant virtual access to the kids through Messenger.
So, it’s not as stark an adjustment as parents have had in the past.
Emmeline has been independent for quite some time, but the wedding makes it officially official.
Connor is away at grad school, getting his career up and running.
Allan is adjusting to independent living and Dorothy has achieved her lifelong dream of moving to the Big Apple.
It’s a bittersweet transition, but every life has its seasons. Kelly and I are ready for this new phase.
Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and give us some cool, bug-free evenings to enjoy our little fire pit together before it starts snowing…

REFRESHING SUMMER PUNCH / Easy Party Punch Recipe
I enjoy a good punch as much as the next person. Typically, we think of it as a summertime drink with light citrus flavors, but I’m always drawn to the punch associated with the holidays.
Sadly, the typical approach won’t do. Sherbet in a mix of fruit punch and lemon-lime soda may have been fine in years past, but it’s no good for a diabetic.
I’m also drawn to the notion of mulled cider or even a Smoking Bishop. In fairness, I’m not sure that either of those are necessarily on the menu. I’ll have to figure something out…

You can find peace amidst the storms that threaten you. ~Joseph B. Wirthlin
Normally, I’d opine about something to do with writing in this section, but I’m just too damn busy.
My internet connection has put me miles behind at work and, now that it’s fixed, I’ve got to double down and get caught up so I can fully enjoy and make best use of my No Monday Policy.
With the changing season and the approaching 4th Quarter, I’ve got to get myself situated to writing Carol’s Christmas. Current status is far from hygge, so I need to catch up and get back on schedule.
That’s all for today. I’ve got tons to do, and no time to do any of it. Hopefully, your week is a bit more relaxing than mine.
