Too Soon To Say ber?

Happy Hump πŸͺ Day and welcome to the πŸ‚ almost autumn πŸ‚ glory of September…

Thirty Days Hath

My favourite poem is the one that starts ‘Thirty days hath September’ because it actually tells you something. ~Groucho Marx

We’ve turned the corner into the ber months that cap off the year in style.

Labor Day is just around the corner, putting us in the home stretch of 🌞 real summer πŸ”₯.

After that, it’s typically back to school time, which was a mixed bag for me.

Back then, it was that transition period from 24×7 freedom to bell-punctuated compartmentalization of time and effort.

It was an adjustment, but after a few weeks, my favorite season kicked in and we got to do cool stuff.

Nowadays, it’s just the last three weeks before a more clement season finally arrives.

Still an adjustment, but there’s more autonomy these days.

It’s a subtle consolation in the latter days of my least favorite season and I’m truly grateful for it.

Summer Melancholy

September

Apparently, I’m not the only one who finds September oddly bittersweet.

Woody Allen has produced a variety of films that range from flat-out hilarious to… this.

September is an anti-romance. It’s kind of a bummer, but certainly an interesting dramatic premise.

Give it a watch and see what you think.

Literally, nobody gets a happily ever after here, but the road that doesn’t arrive at any happy endings is still convoluted and fascinatingly messy.

Sometimes you just need to wallow, and the stretch between πŸŽ–οΈ Social Summer πŸ‘·πŸ» and 🌞 real summer πŸ”₯ is the perfect time for it.

Green Day – Wake Me Up When September Ends (Lyrics)

I always heard the melancholy in this song and didn’t understand what the artist’s intent was.

On a surface-read of the refrain, I can totally relate.

For me, September begins in my least favorite season and ends in the most favorite, so definitely wake me up when it’s over.

In theory, we start in just more of the sweltering, humid nonsense and conclude with the crisp, colorful onset of πŸ‚autumnalπŸ‚ glory.

Sadly for Green Day’s lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, it is a callback to something he told his mom after his dad’s funeral. He was only 10.

Understandably, he had locked himself up in his room for some needed solitude and when his mom came to check on him, he told her to “wake him up when September ends“.

Absolutely heart-rending.

We thought we were going to lose my dad recently. Fortunately, he pulled through and is returning home slightly the worse for wear, but in very good spirits, thank God.

So, bittersweet or not, September is the gateway to the ber months and that is only one of the many reasons for me to be truly and continually grateful.

Best Approached In September

Late summer is perfect for classic mysteries – think of Raymond Chandler’s hot Santa Anas and Agatha Christie’s Mediterranean resorts – while big ambitious works of nonfiction are best approached in September and early October, when we still feel energetic and the grass no longer needs to be cut. ~Michael Dirda

That’s strangely good advice, but I suppose that’s why the Washington Post pays him to give it.

I suppose it’s thematic to squeeze every last moment of 🌞 Summer πŸ”₯ out if you are so inclined.

Stories set in steamy climes with simmering passions and flares of murderous jealousy can be seasonally cathartic, but that’s not my jam.

Ideally, in this timeframe, I like to have already gotten my September and October Christmas All The Time monthly articles staged for deployment so I can work on the annual Holiday Season Serial Romance.

I’m almost there. I’ve been swamped at work and beset with personal maladies that have me well behind on all fronts.

Truly sucks getting old. I don’t recommend it.

Be that as it may, I have done a lot of developmental work on this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance, which is One Little Thing πŸ’, that features some side characters from Holly and Ivy and Merry πŸ”” Bells trying to make it work this time around.

If I can get my head on straight and cleared of perpetual fog, maybe I can get back on track over the holiday weekend. Maybe…

That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for ◻️+πŸ‘–=🧐
