Fresh Start 2020

With the new job comes new opportunities for growth and a fresh start at things.

Fresh Start

The thing about Christmas is that it almost doesn’t matter what mood you’re in or what kind of a year you’ve had – it’s a fresh start. ~Kelly Clarkson

At Christmastime, everything feels new and fancy. So, starting a new job at this time of year feels kind of special. Everybody is in a particularly good mood and they’re taking plenty of vacation time. It will help me wind up to a particularly productive new year.

Bells

One of my favorite Christmas carols is the Carol of the Bells. There’s something really lovely about how it flows and rolls.

Kelly has an alarm sound on her phone that sounds like church bells ringing and Rose has become conditioned to act as a canine alarm clock. If Kelly hits the snooze more than once or twice, Rose the Pocket 🐺 Wolf will climb up on her head and lick her until she’s forced to get up. It’s like having Pavlov’s Alarm Clock…😆

Technique

If technique is of no interest to a writer, I doubt that the writer is an artist. ~Marianne Moore

As I write my daily episodes for this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance, I’m honing a number of important skills. I’m far from perfect but people seem to be enjoying the story. If I can use this as a springboard to getting my other series started, it will have been worth the race to the finish. I’m not as far ahead as I’d hoped to be.

The only drawback to getting back into programming is that it’s mentally arduous. It’s hard to have any creativity left in the tank for a night of writing when I’ve spent all day trying to resolve seemingly insoluble problems and designing processes that didn’t exist the day before. It’s fun but it definitely takes a lot of the wind out of my creative sails for writing time.

As with the rest of the whole life/work balance thing, I’ll need to find a way to carve out some quality writing time each day despite the needs of my new job.

It’s late and that’s all I have to say today. I hope you had a lovely week.
