Surprisingly, I’ve made it to another birthday so I thought I’d pause and enjoy the day.

More Ailments?

As usual, I’m not terribly comfortable. The doctor said that costochondritis should not last 9 months so we’re digging deeper. Damn.

He did have a solution for my morning headaches. We’ll see how it works when I wake up this morning.

Happy Birthday

Today is my birthday. 

It is also my parents’ anniversary.

It is also my friend Enry‘s birthday.

It’s even the birthday of various famous people like George W. Bush and the Dalai Lama.

It’s a lovely day to celebrate even if it isn’t your birthday.

Fortunately for me, it is.

Characters

In creative writing, I teach that characters arise out of our need for them. ~Marlon James

I started this story based on the characters I came up with. The Sentinels existed before there was even a story for them to participate in. Be that as it may, characters can’t just float around in a vacuum (unless it’s SciFi). My main characters led to a story. The story led to supporting characters.

The supporting characters seem to be taking on a focus of their own. The drive-by shooter got a chapter of his own. I’m still not sure that’s warranted. We’ll see if it makes the final edit. In retrospect, it seems like the efforts to take him out ought to get more page time than the guy maxing out for the weekend in protective custody.

It’s my birthday, so I’m keeping it short and sweet like a birthday cupcake.
