So, I sent myself into a massive conniption this morning because I accidentally formatted a hard-drive when I actually meant to format a USB thumb-drive.

Where Would I Be?

A successful marriage is an edifice that must be rebuilt every day. ~Andre Maurois

There are only 10 days until 🍂 Autumn 🍂 officially begins and I really need to chill out.

As I said before, my laptop tanked and I had to spend inordinate amounts of time restoring it,

This has caused no end of friction between my lovely wife and myself. I’m desperate just to get back to “normal“, so I’m expending every effort to get it all sorted out. Unfortunately, she sees this as wasting time that belongs to her.

Look, if I tripped and fell, would it be wasting time that belongs to her as I struggle to get back to my feet and resume doing whatever the hell I was doing before I fell?

Apparently so.

Look, I realize that recovering a crashed laptop takes a lot longer than getting up from a spill but the idea remains. I’m trying to get back to the state where I was doing what I was doing before the mishap occurred. The sooner I can do that, the sooner some sense of equilibrium will return to my state of mind.

Every minute spent in distress makes me anxious, angry, resentful, frustrated and a bunch of other regrettable emotions. Add to that the fact that I am still having difficulty breathing because apparently costochondritis is forever.

I don’t want to be unattentive. I just want to get back to something passing for where I was before all of this techno-disaster transpired.

Of course, I love my wife. We wouldn’t be coming up on 29 years of wedded bliss if I didn’t.

There are a lot of things that are distracting and aggravating us that have nothing to do with each other. She’s got stresses at work. I’ve got stresses around the restoration of my work environment on the laptop. There is still the lingering yuck of Summer. The van is acting up.

We’ve got a lot on our plates. Most of all, though, is that we have each other and we always shall.

That’s brilliant and it helps keep fear at bay even when we’re grumping at each other about extraneous nonsense.

Dune Official Trailer

So, this looks really good. Dune from the 80s is such an amazingly iconic movie that it seems almost sacrilegious to reboot it, but 2020 special effects alone justify the retry. Add to that the visually stunning cast choices and it really looks like a winner.

I’m sure the critics will pan the crap out of it, but I feel that there need to be genre-specific movie critics or that movie-critics should apply genre-specific evaluations.

A sci-fi movie isn’t going to be Citizen Kane. In fairness, I doubt that Citizen Kane is Citizen Kane. No matter how good it is or how visually magical, critics will always apply a blanket set of criteria that genre films cannot possibly attain.

So, like most normal people, I will take the critics’ criticism with a pillar of salt. Forgive them for they know not what they do.

What’s kind of cool is that Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul Atreides, looks like one of my Sentinels villains. There are also a bunch of actors who have been in superhero movies lately.

Josh (Thanos) Brolin is playing Gurney Halleck who was previously played by Patrick (Professor X) Stewart. Jason (Aquaman) Momoa is playing Duncan Idaho. Zendaya (aka MJ from Spider-Man) is playing Chani. Dave (Drax the Destroyer) Bautista is playing Glossu ‘The Beast’ Rabban. Stellan (Erik Selvig from Thor) Skarsgård is playing Baron Harkonnen.

It seems like it has the potential to be absolutely fantastic. The question is, will the theaters actually be open or even in business anymore when it releases? Kind of hard to pack in viewers to get ratings and sales when governors are keeping businesses shuttered.

How to Recover Files from Formatted Hard Drive in Windows 10/7?

So, as you can see (if you watched the video), my previous understanding of the format command was ill-informed and we can recover all the stuff that flashed away in a split-second.

Oh, thank GOD!!!!!

So, a mini-heart attack and a massive spaz-out later, I’ve downloaded RecoverIt. I’ve installed it. I’ve paid for it and I’m running it.

All of the crap I thought was disintegrated will slowly but surely be restored from the magic hidden stash where the Windows format command puts it.

Honestly, I’ve about had it with technical difficulties. I could really use a bit of smooth ⛵ sailing right about now…

So, I can happily unclench my sphincter and stop having heart palpitations while Wondershare recovers it. I hope your weekend is far less jarring than mine has been thus far…
