Happy To Be Alive

Well, September 10th has come and gone and I’m safe from falling minivans this year.

Past

This past year has been a real doozy. I sprained my ankle last July and it didn’t heal until at least January no matter what the Worker’s Comp doctors claimed. It was the end of January this year before I could walk down the stairs like a grown-up.

The van debacle this time last year left me in quite a state until the ribs healed up. Even so, I was left with costochondritis that plagues me to this day.

I did get a lot of resolution of a variety of outstanding items. My sleep apnea has been addressed.

My hearing has been assessed and I’m eligible for hearing aids. She said that conductive hearing loss is more easily treatable since the auditory nerves are still working but the tiny little bones of the inner ear are causing signal loss.

My arbitrary leg swelling is able to be offset with compression socks.

Life is good and getting better all the time.

Present

I really hated this song when it first came out, but it’s grown on me.

Unfortunately, insurance won’t cover the hearing aids so they’ll have to wait until I can afford to buy them myself. Luckily, my hearing isn’t so bad that I can’t afford to wait a while longer.

There is still a significant amount of pain around my chest and sides but I am able to bend and twist in ways that would have been impossible even a month ago. It seems like I’m making good progress at recovering from this wretched costochondritis.

Unfortunately, I’ve been having some difficulty breathing. I’ll be seeing the doctor soon to have that looked at. My guess is that my chest has been in pain so long that I’ve convinced my body not to breathe deeply. The persistent shallow breathing leaves me forcibly and uncomfortably sucking in deep breaths. It ain’t supposed to be like that.

The matter of the swelling ankle has been looked into by a vascular specialist. There’s nothing to be done but to continue wearing compression socks indefinitely. They recommended the next increment of tightness. I’ll have to get on with finding some prices for those.

Future

It could be that I have too many irons in the fire but I don’t think so. I’ve had more projects to manage than my current load in years past, so I think I’ve got just the right balance. A lot of it is setup stuff right now. Once the sites are actually launched and I’m just doing content and product posts, the work will be a lot less intensive than it is right now.

I got Pioneer Skill Set launched yesterday. A lot of the work was already done previously but the actual site was a wonky little collection of PHP and HTML pages I had cobbled together as part of a how-to course that didn’t pan out for me.

The channel was stocked full of informational videos that I made early last year before my old laptop tanked. My big challenge was reformatting the barebones site into something that people might actually want to spend some time looking at. I’ve also begun adding pins to my long-neglected pin board. I even remembered to ping my site so that it can get indexed in hopes of getting some traffic to the site.

I posted a Season 2 kickoff video to notify my few channel subscribers that I’m back in business. I also set up the eCom store while I was at it. Since there was a menu entry for the Trading Post, it seemed reasonable to actually have a site structured and ready to go.

Meanwhile, the Sentinels are waiting for me to get back on track as is the couple in this year’s serial RomCom. The Nerdlightenment buddha is waiting patiently for me to get done with the prepper stuff so I can work on getting that site up and running.

My next big hurdle is getting my head wrapped around WooCommerce so I can get my eCom stores rolling with holiday treats, prepper supplies, Sentinels merch and Nerdvana goods.

That’s hump day for you. I hope your coast down to the weekend is fruitful and stress-free. I think I’ll throw some technobabble at you on Saturday just to help you keep your mind nimble.
