Hawkish On Almost–Autumn
Kelly was wearing her “Easily distracted by birds” shirt the other day. It’s especially true with the eagle nesting in Clamtown. In fairness, it is pretty spectacular even if you’re not a bird enthusiast like her…
Your Youth Is Renewed Like The Eagleโs ๐ฆ
The vigour of all its limbs returneth, the lustre of its plumage, the guidance of its wings, it flieth aloft as before, a sort of resurrection taketh place in it. ~St. Augustine, Exposition on Psalm 103
That’s one of the things I truly admire about Kelly. She is genuinely young at heart.
She’s so present in herself that she can be genuinely merry about birds in the sky.
Because she is so genuine, mirthful and vivacious, she looks about half her age.
Not just physically, but in how she carries herself.
It’s this unintended glamor that draws people to her.
People genuinely like Kelly because she is genuinely likeable.
I happen to be one of those people.
I like Kelly, because Kelly is Kelly. How could I not?
She is, has been and always will be my birdyola.

โฐ๏ธ Hawk Mountain
Raptor ID for Beginners
Given Kelly’s affection for our feathered friends, it’s rather convenient that Hawk Mountain is right down the road from us.
The ridge just to the south of my house happens to also be a stretch of the Appalachian Trail.
Not too far from us is the lookout of Bake Oven Knob, and it is a spectacular view.
Part of what I love about Pennsylvania living is the hills.
The views change with every hill you crest on your way to somewhere nestled among these gorgeous undulations.
And that’s another thing I love about being here.
I can keep my eyes on the road and drink in the scenery while Kelly shoves her head up against the windshield and yells, “Did you see that? It’s a red-tailed hawk! How gorgeous!”
And yet she and I can still agree on sumptuous apple cider and spectacularly colorful, delicious ๐almost autumn๐ squash.
2024 Autumn Migration Wrap Up

Ways Of The Owl ๐ฆ
All the ways of the owl are ways of softness and duskiness. His wings are shod with silence, his plumage is edged with down. ~John Burroughs
So, I’m Mr. All-Nighter anymore.
That’s nothing new. I’ve always been a night-๐ฆ.
Unfortunately, it’s because my sleep cycle is all out of whack.
I work my day job and I’m so mentally exhausted that I lose the evening and wake up around 10 or 11 and basically work all night on the stuff I’d have been doing after dinner if I hadn’t basically passed the hell out.
So, it’s really hard to get anything done when I’m receiving the day in random time-slices.
Mostly, I’ve been honing some ideas for upcoming plot twists in the Sentinels Chronicle.
I haven’t properly entered into the writing space for One Little Thing ๐, which is a problem since I specifically finished my site work early in order to have extra time to work on it.
Well, I don’t have extra time because I’m in a perpetual fugue state from the screwed up sleeping distribution.
Not sure how to fix that in the short run, but I need to figure something out soon.
I’m wasting September, and that’s no way to approach ๐almost autumn๐…
That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for ๐๐ณ๐
