Here Comes June 2022

Unfortunately, June is the month in which 🌞Summer🔥 begins. Everything is going up. The temperature, the cost of everything, the hype from the media about everything else. Always up and up and up…

God Created June?

Spring being a tough act to follow, God created June. ~Al Bernstein

As we draw into my least favorite season, I do have the bittersweet realization that it will be over in the blink of an eye.

This year has already been flying by with alarming haste.

Part of it was because I was very busy with work stuff.

Part of it was because I was very distracted with eye surgeries, getting my diabetes under control, getting physical therapy for my neck issue and so forth.

I’ve been trying to get my Christmas monthlies stitched up early so I’ll have more time to work on this year’s Holiday Season Serial Romance instead of rushing right up to the deadline.

All this busy being busy stuff tends to make the time just whistle right by.

As it happens, being busy isn’t likely to end anytime soon. I’ve still got those monthlies to take care of, more data conversion work to do, other random programming tasks, etc.

I’d also like to get my Sentinels site set up correctly, but there’s no time in the schedule until the Christmas monthlies are sorted out.

At least I’ve got AC…

Geek Of The Week

Ms Marvel Trailer: Iron Man and Secret Invasion Easter Eggs Breakdown

So, the next Marvel series rolling out on Disney+ is Ms Marvel. It looks like it should be pretty good.

It seems they’re going for a Peter Parker vibe. Coming of age, figuring out who you are and what you’re supposed to do in life.

Always a strong storyline. Plenty of material to work with.

I’m curious to see who the villain winds up being. I’m not familiar with the comic, so I have no preconceived ideas of whether they’re being comics-accurate. I can just watch it and enjoy it as presented.

Who could ask for anything more?

Well, there will be weeks of concentrated geekery just as there was for Moon 🌙 Knight. I’ll be sharing that as it rolls out.

Slow Cooker

In the writing process, the more a story cooks, the better. ~Doris Lessing

Well, if time in the slow cooker counts for making a story good then The Sentinels: New Blood and the rest of the series is going to be spectacular.

All humility aside, I really want this series to be absolutely spectacular.

Could be why I spend so much time hemming, hawing and cogitating on it.

I’ve got a fairly solid story idea but when I put fingers to keys, there’s still something holding me back.

I think the major problem is that you really can’t “pants” a series if you want it to hang together as a coherent jigsaw puzzle.

I’ve been pouring through my library of writing advice videos again, looking for some ingredients to the much-needed awesome sauce but I’m not finding it.

As usual, I’m mentally exhausted from work but there’s more to it than that.

I just don’t have the storyline where I need it to be.

For the annual Holiday Season Serial Romance, I’ve got a kind of template that I follow. It’s not specifically formulaic. At least, I hope it’s not. But there is an estabilshed pattern for Hallmark Channel-type Romcoms.

I don’t have that for The Sentinels, not yet anyway. I want it to have that massively interlocked series feel that you get from the MCU or some of the classic anime series. I don’t have that end-to-end big picture yet.

The best advice I’ve heard lately is that you have to know where the end is in order to know how to get there.

My dominoes aren’t in a row yet. I don’t even have a clear idea of how I’d like to lay them out.

I’ve got some vague waypoints and some interesting characters who aren’t fully developed. That’s not much to base a series on, honestly. I need to do more thinking, more planning, more developing and a lot more research.

Seems like a good excuse to take a nap…

That’s it for today. I hope you’re keeping cool and comfy this happy post-holiday hump day. I’m doing my best to do likewise.
