Man Cold

We had a bit of a change in the weather and the random fluctuations in temperature and humidity have left me feeling a bit under the weather.

Poor Little Bunny

Is there anything more insufferable than a man cold?

Coughing until my head throbs with pain. Drowning in phlegm. Can’t even sleep in my own bed.

That sucks like you can’t believe.

Fortunately, the incessant coughing reminds me that my ribs have largely healed. Had I gotten this cold a month ago, I’d be in absolute agony.

I can be grateful for that at least.

My Own Worst Enemy

If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self. ~Napoleon Hill

We all have our flaws. Inescapable little traps in our character that we fall prey to at every turn.

Only by identifying and overcoming these traits can we really be the best versions of ourselves.

To err is human, to forgive oneself for being human is nearly impossible. It’s worth the effort, but the effort is endless.

I hate falling prey to my own failings, but there they are. Strewn like caltraps in the path before me, but not separate from me.

One can only hope and try to be better. Sometimes I don’t even try and that hurts the worst.

Me being me isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Autumnal Musings

Now Autumn’s fire burns slowly along the woods and day by day the dead leaves fall and melt. ~William Allingham

Autumn’s fire…

What a wonderful notion.

The blazing colors of the trees. The simmering burn of the spices of the season. The waves of heat from an oven at work in a cool kitchen.

Can I possibly express my appreciation for and love of the season? I think Autumn is the best time of the year.

The cool temperatures are more suitable to me and also more suitable to cooking in comfort and for comfort. Warm food and warm feelings trump warm weather, in my opinion.

I’m feeling a bit better today, but the periodic sinus drainage down the back of my throat is still offputting. I’m not quite in the mood for it, but it is what it is. One of the side effects of the approach of Winter, to be sure, but I’ll take a manageable cold over roasting and sweating like I do all Summer. Every season has its ups and downs. This was one of the downs. I hope you’re enjoying your weekend more than me.
