Squirrel, Girl!
Another humble harbinger of 💐 Spring 🌷 is the simple grey squirrel with its signature twitchy tail…
Busy
Squirrels are such busy little people, always going about their own affairs. ~Beatrix Potter
My back window turns into a theater when the weather gets warmer and the key players are squirrels.
We have a pretty diverse cast out back. Robins, crows, chipmunks and deer appear, but the squirrels are always stealing the show.
It also makes for great cat TV. Rose generally only looks out back if Kelly is doing something in the yard, but Fluffy might park in the sill and watch the drama.
What does Rose look at? She looks out front at the rabbits and pedestrians. Whether or not the walkers are walking a dog, she’s still staged to rebuke them simply for existing.
Squirrel!!!
Squirrel scenes from UP!
Naturally, I can’t think of squirrels without thinking of the running gag from Up.
Squirrels are inherently funny because they perform such absurd backyard gymnastics.
Squirrels triggering talking dogs at random intervals is the next step beyond.
And the doberman rendering opera villain dialog with a squeaky voice is the kind of genius move that makes Up a classic.
But there’s more to squirrels than Pixar. Check out this video for some funny facts about these bushy-tailed acorn gatherers.

Motion
The squirrel is not so much a creature as it is a motion. ~Mark Twain
I could probably say the same about my superhero character, Blue Banshee.
The things this girl gets herself into are as absurd as they are comical.
It’s a light counterpoint to some of the darker aspects of the chronicle, but she has her down moments too.
I’m so close to being done with book two in the series but things keep jumping up to take me off task.
I’m hoping to get that done so I can push on with book three, The Sentinels: Heartstrings.
Why Heartstrings?
Book one sets up the reader’s understanding of the Sentinelsverse and spins up some of the tension and looming threats.
Book two follows those threads through calamity and resolution while introducing others.
Book three is going to let all threads simmer and build toward the bubbling boil of book four.
Book five? Oh, baby. That’s when the pressure cooker absolutely blows… and yet, we’re really just getting started.
Book three might feel slow compared to the books before and after, but the simmering still results in bubbles that rise to the surface to pop and splash the unwary because this chronicle is always in motion…
That’s all for today. See you back on Saturday for 🍂 leaf 🍃 litter 🍁…
